About the role and about You:

An exciting opportunity to join a world class engineering team bringing category defining products to market. Reporting directly to the Senior Manager of Systems, Analysis, and Test Engineering, you will initially assist the team with the delivery of testing programs for a variety of hardware products designed to make Zwifting easier. You must therefore have excellent knowledge and experience in performing hardware tests as well as safely working with electronic and mechanical systems.

In the medium term there will be the opportunity to grow within the company into a technical systems engineer, overseeing the development and implementation of systems engineering processes, aligning stakeholders across various engineering functions, and managing risks associated with hardware program delivery. Experience in working with multi-disciplinary teams across the globe is therefore essential.

The primary location of the role is at our office and test site in Guildford, Surrey but occasional product dependent travel to other sites or suppliers will be required. At Zwift we will empower you to solve complex problems and to take full ownership of your work.

What you’ll do: 

  • The initial aspect of the role will be to provide the Systems, Analysis, and Testing team with support that includes:
    • Proposal and implementation of site functional safety and compliance
    • Supporting mechanical and electrical design groups to develop new rigs or improve existing rigs including performing all necessary supporting calculations
    • Electrical and mechanical troubleshooting on test samples and rigs when necessary using standard test equipment
    • Generation of electrical schematics and reviews of industrial control schemes
    • Contractor management - coordinate and setup project scopes of work with external resources
    • Feedback learnings from testing into the relevant design authority and groups
    • Working with hardware quality to ensure physical test capabilities on site are appropriate for the relevant product line
  • Systems Engineering:
    • Assist the Program Manager with technical communication and collaboration among multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure alignment with project objectives and requirements
    • Establish and oversee the hardware systems engineering process at Zwift, beginning from the discovery phase through to product delivery
    • Assist with DFMEAs, support design reviews, and help manage program risks
    • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines to support the development of a comprehensive testing program driven by product requirements, DFMEAs, and relevant standards
    • Ensure alignment of testing efforts with program milestones and objectives
    • Support program managers by providing technical insights and guidance to ensure engineering deliverables are met on schedule and within budget

What we’re looking for: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent), Maths, Physics
  • Proficiency in creating 3D CAD and 2D drawings in SolidWorks, undertaking drawing reviews and performing tolerance stack ups
  • Strong practical skills
    • Hands-on experience with building test rigs and performing tests a necessity
    • Understanding and experience in the fabrication of mechanical parts and assemblies
    • Experience in working with high voltages and 3 phase power
    • Electrical design and wiring experience
    • Ability to set and apply safe working practices across all areas
  • Produce concise reports of test results and experience in performing detailed root cause analyses
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft and Google suite of software
  • Strong communication and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrate flexibility, creativity, and resilience when faced with complex or uncertain tasks

Desirable skills: 

  • Experience of industrial control, motor control, and automation hardware
  • Experience of working with pneumatic systems
  • Experience in systems integration and stakeholder technical alignment
  • Strong risk management skills
  • Experience in systems engineering process management
  • Working with Python scripts (or another language) for automation, data processing, and control
  • Experience with DAQ systems
  • Track record of testing fitness hardware or consumer electronics
