ZS's Corporate Support teams operate the firm's core internal enterprise functions. Our global teams comprise team-oriented, pragmatic and results-driven people who thrive in a challenging work environment. The ZS legal team includes about 40 professionals located primarily in the U.S. and India. The team is made up of lawyers, paralegals, privacy professionals, and compliance experts. We work in a highly collaborative fashion across the team and are organized by subject matter expertise, including commercial, corporate, disputes, employment, IP, and privacy.

Senior Legal Director

The Senior Legal Director will serve as the lead of our in-house legal team based primarily in Pune, India. The Senior Legal Director will be responsible for the smooth running of the legal team as well as advising the India based business leaders. This role is a part of the global legal team and will offer opportunities for international collaboration, including regional responsibility for Asia Pacific legal matters. The Senior Legal Director will liaise with the legal team's leadership team and report to ZS's General Counsel in the US.

As an attorney at ZS, you are a talented attorney who can work independently but collaboratively in a collegial team environment within a fast-paced legal department. You are willing and able to work on many different types of projects simultaneously and have an entrepreneurial mindset to contribute to the management and direction of a constantly evolving legal department.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the management and oversight of the India based in-house legal team in support of the global organization
  • Provide legal advice and practical business insight to the ZS business in India on topics including, corporate matters, employment law issues, contracting, leases, and other commercial negotiations
  • Evaluate legal risks and advise on strategic business initiatives
  • Collaborate with the global legal leadership team on team development and projects
  • Assess and mitigate risk for the corporation regarding compliance with India laws and other countries in East Asia
  • Oversee all legal compliance matters required under applicable laws for ZS's India operations
  • Establish and maintain relationships with a large group of stakeholders within India and globally
  • Act as a source of advice and counsel to the ZS leadership team in India
  • Advise and serve as escalation point for various legal matters handled by the legal team based in India

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree required from nationally recognized institution with a strong academic record;
  • Law Degree (LL.B) from a top tier university with a strong academic record; and certification in Corporate secretarial or post-graduation in labor law is preferable
  • 10+ years of relevant experience of working for a multinational company along with supporting a global business is preferrable
  • In depth knowledge of compliance activities and filings required under various state and central laws of India;
  • Holding deep expertise in employment laws of India is an added advantage
  • Strong team management skills;
  • Strong English fluency - both spoken and written;
  • Experience in advising on Asia regional legal needs is a plus
