Make Your Mark:

As BlackLine continues to build Finance capabilities that enable profitable growth at scale, we are looking to fill a newly created role of Senior Director, FP&A to build, scale, and lead operational processes for our Finance team. The position reports into the BlackLine's Head of Corporate Finance and will have direct interaction with our Chief Financial Officer and Chief Accounting Officer. In this role, you will be the senior operations leader for corporate finance, owning all inputs to the P&L including monthly revenue and expense forecasts, cash flows, and capex. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, technically proficient in building complex financial models, administering planning systems, and refining forecast methodologies, and comfortable diving deep to inspect the financials and communicating with an executive audience. You are capable of managing teams and acting as an individual contributor overseeing complex cross functional processes, have an accomplished track record of financial controllership, and act as a critical conduit between internal finance and accounting teams, business partners and our CFO to ensure inputs and outputs align and financial reporting is delivered accurately and timely to the CFO, executive management team, and board of directors.

You'll Get To:

  1. Own and drive all financial planning processes including forecasts, R&Os, quarterly business reviews, annual operating plan, and long-range planning
  2. Develops, maintains and continuously refines the rolling forecast process and increases the agility of financial plan and budgets based upon rolling forecast
  3. Refine forecast methodologies and build or enable drivers based financial models to support our forecasting processes including our annual operating plan and long-range plans.
  4. Drive process improvements to improve forecast accuracy and reduce cycle time through building processes to source critical data to inform key performance metrics and bridge variances
  5. Function as thought leader over data governance and feature roadmap for our internal planning system including structure of accounts, forecast methodologies, and reporting frameworks to ensure data across Finance and accounting is reported on consistently, accurately, and updated timely
    • Develops and maintains management reporting, dashboards and ad-hoc reporting processes
    • Develops and maintains suite of key performance indicators
    • Develops financial acumen across the company, through financial mentoring and training
  6. Develop an automation strategy to mitigate existing manual aspects to the forecasting/budgeting process and collaborate cross departmentally with Financial Systems and Enterprise Applications to drive the completion of that project.
  7. Leads industry benchmarking initiatives and gains alignment on establishing and progressing towards benchmarks when justified
  8. Collaborates with stakeholders to ensure that future strategies, project proposals and business plans are incorporated into the annual budget and forecast
  9. Develops scenario analysis processes and collaborates with stakeholders to enhance strategic planning process
  10. Manage and develop a small team of finance professionals and drive strategies from their outputs and analysis

What You'll Bring:

Years of Experience in Related Field: 10+ years of total experience

Education: Bachelor's degree required with proven history of high achievement, MBA a plus

Technical/Specialized Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  1. Extensive experience building, developing, and leading Finance function(s) for public companies, ideally in a $100M+ revenue company
  2. Corporate finance/FP&A experience at a high growth SaaS or technology company
  3. Experience managing automation initiatives and administering planning systems
  4. Deep understanding of P&L components, unit economics, and common SaaS metrics
  5. Proven track record of developing people, leading, and managing high performing teams
  6. Strong leadership skills and experience partnering at the executive management levels
  7. Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills and proven stakeholder management and influencing skills
  8. Ability to build working relationships with teams across the organization and collaborate.
  9. Finance-minded with strong operational focus to drive process, systems, and execution in a scalable and repeatable way
  10. Strong analytical capabilities and business acumen with the ability to simplify and distill complex business information in a consumable way
  11. Analytical and problem-solving mindset with a can-do attitude
  12. Superior software and systems skills (e.g. advanced financial planning tool, Microsoft Excel) a must. Adaptive Planning, Salesforce.com, Tableau and programming expertise (SQL, R, Python) experience a plus
  13. Strong customer service, success orientation, and a desire to help others to succeed

  1. Expert level understanding of financial statements and levers
  2. Holds internal finance and external partners accountable for their forecasts and inputs. Takes responsibility for forecast errors proactively and seeks continuous improvement
  3. Able to build complex driver-based models from scratch with little direct oversight and audit capabilities to facilitate inspection
  4. Capable of applying judgment to assumptions or building confidence based scenario models where direct expertise is lacking
  5. Bias for speed, expert at simplifying complex tasks, and delivering results with a high bar for accuracy
  6. Adept at presentation and organization of financial data and metrics for visual effect
  7. Communicates proactively and frequently, never leaves their internal customers hanging

Salary Range:

USD $191,000.00 - USD $253,000.00

Pay Transparency Statement:

Placement within this range depends upon several factors, including the applicant's prior relevant job experience, skill set, and geographic location. In addition to base pay, BlackLine also offers short-term and long-term incentive programs, based on eligibility, along with a robust offering of benefit and wellness plans.
