Position Summary


The Supervisor has responsibility alongside the Manager for the day-to-day management of the conflicts and new business workflow. They will monitor workload, allocate assignments based on capacity and competency of team members, review and activate matters and provide mentoring and training to the team. They will be involved in quality control checks of team members work product, ensuring they provide feedback and help others develop their conflicts and anti-money laundering (AML) analysis. They will be involved in recruitment and act as a liaison between Analysts and Management as needed.

General Counsel: New Business

White & Case opens more than 13,000 matter every year, or 1 matter per hour, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Playing a key role in assisting Partners and fee earners to identify potential conflicts of interest during new business intake, you will work at the heart of the Firm's operations and as a trusted advisor to our lawyers.

Combining both sound commercial judgement and effective communication skills, you will support the Office of the General Counsel (OGC) in handling all aspects relating to incoming new business for new clients or existing clients. This includes conflict searches, opening entries, fee approvals and new matter activation. You will also handle many matter lifecycle aspects of an existing matter including changes to matter details, changes to the parties involved and all reactivation requests.

We are committed to clearing conflicts on incoming matters to provide expedited approval, and provide services from offices in London, Manila, New York, Paris and Tampa.

Duties and Accountabilities 1

Ability to perform all the responsibilities of the Conflicts Analysts and Senior Conflicts Analysts.

The Supervisor will provide a great deal of support to Partners in relation to new business intake. This will include review and activation of matters for new and existing clients, urgent more complex requests, reactivations, and additional parties. They will also run AML checks on new clients and review and approve client and matter name changes. This position will interact directly with the GCs, New Businesss Acceptance Committee, and senior Partners of the Firm as part of the matter opening process. They will update and monitor special approvals. Aid with projects and activities such as, system upgrades and testing. They will participate in interviews and will provide feedback to management. A primary function will also be conducting all types of functional / technical skills training and mentoring of Analysts as needed. Throughout their workday they will monitor workloads and allocate accordingly.

Ability to comprehend the local conflicts and AML rules. legal terminology, flexibility and adjusts well to change, strong written and oral communications skills, logical thought-process, strong analytical skills, works well under pressure and deadlines, and can work independently. Strong interpersonal skills. Maintain a high level of confidentiality on all levels including, but not limited to, firm activity, departmental processes, personnel activity. Sets a good example to others in terms of attitude, work ethic and punctuality (and other soft skills). Computer literate (Word, Outlook, Internet). Legal experience required. Conflicts experience required. Regular and predictable attendance required.

Qualifications
    • Minimum three years experience in a conflict's role at a reasonably sized law firm required.
    • University or College degree preferred, high school diploma mandatory.
    • AML experience a plus.
    • Intellectual curiosity, creative thinker.
    • Ability to see the big picture to identify reputational risk concerns.
    • Outstanding communication skills (written and verbal).
    • Strong time management skills, ability to stay calm under pressure when juggling multiple tasks.
    • Client service focus and team player.
    • Maintain a high level of confidentiality on all levels including, but not limited to, firm activity, departmental processes, firm personnel activity.
    • Intapp conflicts system knowledge preferred.
    • Proactive, resourceful, takes initiative.
    • Fluency in English.

    Location & Reporting

    The position is located in either Tampa, Manila or London. It reports to senior management.
