Job Description

What’s it all about?

You will be leading the FX Customer Risk team at VXBS (Visa-Cross-Border-Solutions) / CurrencyCloud, where we are creating software to assist FX Risk processes so that we can give our customers frictionless experience to exchange currencies.  

 

Additionally, to the technology challenges working in FX Customer Risk team is an amazing opportunity to learn more about the risk domain and cross border money movements.  

 

Engineering Manager will be reporting to the FX Tribe Director of Engineering. The EM will be leading a team of 4+ software engineers and manage the delivery of our outsourced partners. 

 

You will be working alongside versatile and experienced engineers improving our FX capabilities. This includes the following contributions:  

  • Contribute to the new FX Risk platform. It is a great opportunity to work on scaling software towards using event-driven architecture.  

  • Design, build and maintain core FX Risk capabilities. Our customers value us for being able to abstract away the intricacies of foreign exchange market under a simple API solution.  

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members.  

  • Influence wider company architecture. The FX Risk team is a new team but based on the FX transactions handled by many other teams. 

  • Work alongside smart QA engineers, who build and maintain a vast collection of automated testing scenarios. 

 

Qualifications

Tech 

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or other technical related field or an Advanced Degree (e.g., Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or a PhD. 

  • 2+ years of experience as an Engineering Manager, Tech Lead and willingness to step into the EM role. 

  • Experience managing working with contractors and outsource teams is important. 

  • Experience building in software for financial domain, especially in risk is beneficial. 

  • Experience working with agile process and principles. 

  • Experience in multiple programming languages, these teams primarily use Java, so experience with microservices in Java is important.  

  • Proficient in different programming languages, ideally being comfortable reading Ruby or Scala.  

  • Experience designing event based and streaming solutions using Kafka will be valued.  

  • Strong SQL knowledge, ability to understand and write complex queries. 

  • Working knowledge of relational databases such as MySQL. 

  • Experience building applications that run in Kubernetes would be handy.   

  • Working in a DevOps environment, or passion and willingness to work in this way. 

  • Proven delivery of well-tested, scalable, fault-tolerant and performant solutions. 

  • A pragmatic approach to solutions and delivery of technical projects. 

  • Have been a driving force not only behind change in your previous roles but also in working in a distributed environment. 

  • Having worked in a collaborative environment where you are comfortable reviewing code of your peers. 

 

Personality 

  • Genuinely interested in intersection of finance domain and technology. Desire to become a subject matter expert. 

  • A self-starter who takes accountability for getting things done.  

  • Passionate about growing others while growing yourself. An interest for continuous improvement and helping engineers to understand the big picture. 

  • Pragmatism in decision making and ability to get buy-in for ideas and getting them done. 

  • Top-notch stakeholder management skills, including the ability to influence colleagues in small, cross-functional scrum teams. 

  • Exceptional structure and attention to detail. 

  • Comfortable challenging the status quo and always curious about the way things work. 

  • Great written and verbal communication skills.
