PR Specialist

, you'll serve as a Vanguard spokesperson, telling the Vanguard story and leading the development and execution of strategic, creative, and effective public relations strategies to advance key business priorities and enterprise initiatives. You'll join a team of dedicated professionals in upholding Vanguard's image and reputation as a leading asset manager, thought leader, and, most importantly, steward of our clients' investments.

You'll respond promptly, resourcefully, and thoughtfully to daily inquiries from print, broadcast, and digital media to promote Vanguard funds, services, and research; advocate on issues of importance to clients; and express Vanguard's viewpoints. You will help develop and deliver responses to breaking market news, regulatory changes, industry developments, and trends impacting Vanguard as an employer and investment provider. You'll serve as a trusted counselor and partner to leaders, key stakeholders, and the business.

In this role you will:

1. Provides consultation to develop public relation communications solutions that drive identified business outcomes. Translates business strategies and initiatives into messaging and content. Prioritizes communications and messages to maximize impact on target external client audiences, including the general public, customers, crew, governmental bodies, and suppliers, and the media.
2. Creates effective and compelling public relations content based on deep understanding of target audience and the broader operating environment. Partners with business area to ensure appropriate public relations and communications support. Serves as a spokesperson, manages incoming inquiries from the media, arranges interviews, and prepares non-communications crew to address the public or media.
3. Determines cost effective means to execute key public relations deliverables. Captures key metrics and measures the effectiveness of external client communication solutions. Uses and disseminates industry best practices across the business.
4. Resolves conflicts over content or public relations recommendations by acting as a trusted advisor to influence, coach, and negotiate with stakeholders.
5. Researches, writes, and assists with press releases and other communication materials that are professional, effective, and accurate.
6. Applies Vanguard's style, usage, and brand standards to ensure consistency.
7. Develops and strengthens working relationships with key influencers across the organization and in the industry to support public relations and business objectives.
8. Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

What it takes:
  • Minimum of five years related work experience, with at least two years of industry experience.
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience. Public Relations degree preferred. Graduate degree preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated knowledge of media landscape, and a passion for the news, positioning, and storytelling.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and professional demeanor. Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, work collaboratively, and manage multiple complex projects at once.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new concepts quickly and complete multiple and diverse assignments with the highest level of quality.
  • Broad understanding of investment or finance industry preferred. Strong understanding of Vanguard's brand and investment philosophy.
Additional information:

This is a hybrid role with Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday in the office and Monday and Friday are remote.
