About the Team
TikTok is seeking a Performance & Capacity Engineer to join the Capacity & Optimization Engineering team to focus on site-wide performance and capacity optimization at the intersection of all Tiktok products and services, and all physical infrastructure (Servers, Data Centers, Network). This role will focus on creating and optimizing global and regional capacity plans at various altitudes to balance service, infrastructure, and business constraints by using Operations Research skills to build and improve mathematical optimization models and solutions. This engineer will help to ensure optimal operation of our infrastructure resources from both a cost and technology perspective, facilitating tens of billions of user requests, tens of exabytes of data, terabits/s of network flow.

In order to enhance collaboration and cross-functional partnerships, among other things, at this time, our organization follows a hybrid work schedule that requires employees to work in the office 3 days a week, or as directed by their manager/department. We regularly review our hybrid work model, and the specific requirements may change at any time.

Responsibilities
- In partnership with Enterprise and other Solution architects, define solution architecture and technical context diagrams in alignment to business/technology strategy, specific initiative functional and nonfunctional requirements.
- Work with the full software development lifecycle, utilizing emerging technologies and leading cloud teams to implement cloud design principles and develop cloud automation, interfaces, and architecture to support Cloud Native Engineering initiatives.
- Understanding, advocating and supporting the engineering/network strategy, as well as analyzing the servicing operations in compliance environments to detect deficiencies and recommend improvements.
- Leading, promoting and communicating domain architecture progress, outcomes and results.
- Participate in the evaluation and selection of standard technologies and/or products.
- Provide technical consultation, research, etc. for application development projects as needed.
- Plan and carry out Cloud architecture. Support client teams, respond to business opportunities, and deliver services.
- Support development team management and solution architects to ensure domain development teams compliance with the enterprise architecture standards, quality of code, adherence to metrics/targets.
- Identifying organizational resources, structures to support enterprise architecture.

- Ensure application developers have appropriate knowledge, experience, tooling, environments, and support in order to become a high performing team.
- Constantly keeping an eye on optimal utilization technology investments. Assists in the budgeting process.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in solution architect (optimization) or software engineering.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Proficient in full stack development using languages like C++, Java, Python, Node.js and JavaScript frameworks like Angular and React, and designing large scale software systems.
- Expertise in multiple-disciplinary server platform architecture and design.
- Experiences in cloud computing platforms such as AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, and Oracle including virtualization, containerization, and orchestration tools like Kubernetes.
- Ability to analyze solutions from a full Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) perspective, including but not limited to: CAPEX, OPEX, the system constraints that drive design tradeoffs, technology, quality and serviceability.
- Effective communication skills to influence and partner across many Tiktok business and engineering teams.

Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of industry experience in cloud datacenter architecture, data center infrastructure and development on AWS experience Software development experience with Automation of QA processes a big plus.
- Knowledge of server technology, rack architecture and at-scale cloud infrastructure deployment.
- Experience with architectural solutions spanning across "On Cloud" and "On Prem".
- Technical understanding of server platform architecture, design and development, with emphasis on at scale deployment.
- Technical understanding of commodity storage or memory technologies (SSDs, HDDs, tape, DRAM etc.) and knowledgeable on storage and/or memory industry trends.
- Technical understanding of GPU, CPU architecture, design and development, with emphasis on power and performance and TCO analysis.
- Product Planning or Project Management experience.
- Experience and interest in building "Zero to One" - building systems and processes from scratch with ambiguous requirements and goals.
- Experience with technical infrastructure planning or capacity planning.
- Experience with large-scale technical infrastructure and distributed systems.
- Experience working in HW Infrastructure Engineering Groups.

Job Information

[For Pay Transparency] Compensation Description (annually)

The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $184300 - $337250 annually.

Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.
