Job Description

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) is seeking to hire a Digital Communications Coordinator who will serve as an essential part of the communications team. The coordinator will manage the Commission's digital footprint including day-to-day management of the MGC website and social channels and ongoing management of the agency's intranet. This position works closely with the Communications Division Chief to facilitate all aspects of external and internal communications, including production of public meetings (virtual and in-person), photo and video projects, and general communications strategy. The successful candidate must be tech-savvy and possess a strong knowledge of multimedia production, digital and social media, content management systems, graphic design, and other relevant tools.

In addition to leading digital communications, this position will work closely with the Communications Division Chief on media relations, including but not limited to press release development, and media coordination and monitoring. This position owns essential external communications projects such as leading the development of a regular newsletter, a monthly revenue report, blog posts and web copy, and special projects both assigned and developed. Additionally, this position will maintain the MGC style guide and collaborate will colleagues across the agency to ensure a consistent message is communicated.

The successful candidate will possess both a creative approach to communications as well as technical acumen with both programs such as graphic design software and video editing platforms, as well as physical A/V and photo equipment.

The MGC is a collaborative environment, and we are seeking someone who is open to finding opportunities where communications strategies can be improved as well as developing new cross-agency projects. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed or as the individual hired for this role is interested. A sense of humor and strong work ethic are essential characteristics being sought for this role.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, English, Journalism, Public Relations, Digital Marketing, Business or related field, and a minimum of three to five years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in social media marketing or management of a professional social media presence.
  • Experience shooting and editing photos and video (live video production preferred) and managing A/V equipment.
  • Experience with WordPress or similar Content Management Systems. Web Development certification (such as HTML) not required but encouraged to apply.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite and graphic design (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere, Canva), Google Analytics, and email marketing software (such as Constant Contact and Meltwater) is preferred.

Salary is commensurate with experience.

The successful candidate will be required to pass an extensive background check that includes a full credit check, CORI, drug screen, fingerprinting and a review of the candidate's standing with the MA Dept of Revenue and the IRS.

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission is responsible for the implementation of the expanded gaming law (Chapter 194 of the Acts of 2011). Under the law, the Commission is tasked with establishing a regulatory framework for the solicitation, licensing, taxation, and oversight of a maximum of three casino licenses and one slots parlor license in Massachusetts.
