Summit Public Schools is seeking a Senior Director of Learning Experience who will support all schools to be inclusive, anti-biased, antiracist and excellent places for students to learn and grow.  

The Senior Director of Learning Experience will join a team of leaders who will support implementation and execution of Summit Public Schools’ instructional vision by:

  • Developing systems that build the capacity of our Deans of Culture and Instruction and Executive leaders in implementing excellent instruction at their schools.
  • Developing a comprehensive, backward mapped, differentiated professional development plan for teachers that ensures they are supported in executing an excellent learning experience for all students.
  • Developing a comprehensive, backwards mapped, differentiated professional development plan for Deans of Culture and Instruction that builds their capacity in coaching, feedback and aligned professional development delivery for their teachers.
  • Collaborating with network leadership, school leadership and teachers to design, customize and facilitate professional development experiences that are responsive to the needs of the professional educators across the organization.
  • Supporting the continuous improvement and development of the Summit Public Schools base curriculum and structures.
  • Engaging in continuous improvement to assess and support the redesign of elements of the Summit model in pursuit of our mission and vision.

The Senior Director of Learning Experience will drive the vision for teaching and learning on the Schools Team. The Senior Director will work collaboratively to drive the highest quality of work and operational efficiency in academic model implementation, curriculum and assessment, coaching and professional development for Summit Public Schools teachers, school leaders, and faculty.

This position will report to the Chief Academic Officer and collaborate frequently with the Diverse Learners team, the Concrete Next Step team and School Leadership. 

The ideal candidate has experience in classroom teaching and school leadership, has strong pedagogy, is versed in various models of teaching and learning and is deeply committed to diversity, equity and inclusion and whole child development. An ideal candidate also brings an understanding of adult learning and possesses strong project management and communication skills.

What You’ll Do:

Vision and Strategic Planning

  • Set long-term goals and priorities for excellence in teaching and learning and manage towards outcomes for learning.
  • Develop a system for building the capacity of:
    • Site leadership as instructional leaders.
    • Deans of Culture and Instruction that connects professional development and teacher coaching.
  • Develop a system for providing tiered instructional support for teachers and leaders who require it.
  • Lead and iterate in the continuous improvement of our strategic plan for a comprehensive, backward mapped and differentiated professional development experience for teachers and school leaders to execute the highest quality learning experience for all students.
  • Collaborate with school leaders, team leads and the Schools team to design, differentiate, and facilitate professional development experiences that are responsive to the needs of educators across the organization.

Coaching and Management 

  • Support school leadership through coaching and side-by-side professional learning and development to drive the highest quality of work and operational efficiency in academic model implementation, assessments, and professional development for teachers, school leaders, and faculty.
  • Collaborate with team members and school leaders as schools work to meet their goals and performance measures.
  • Ensure there are feedback mechanisms in place and carefully monitor their data to update and improve the Summit Public Schools experience.

Project Management

  • In collaboration with the rest of the Schools team, manage key projects critical to school and network success (ex. WASC, New teacher induction).
  • Project manage network base curriculum including selection and adoption of new curriculum as needed and continuous improvement of current curriculum for useability by teachers.

What You Need:

Key Qualities and Skills   

  • Bachelor’s Degree is required.
  • A Master’s Degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or similar program is strongly preferred.
  • 4+ years in school leadership is strongly preferred.
  • 2+ years in district, network or systems leadership equivalent is strongly preferred.
  • 1+ year experience teaching or leading in the Summit Learning model is strongly preferred.
  • A Teaching Credential in California or another US state is strongly preferred, as is prior teaching experience
  • An Administrative Credential in California or another US State is strongly preferred. 
  • Proficiency in Google Platforms, including Google Drive, Google Sheets, Google Docs, and Google Slides. 
  • Clear health and background check.

Our compensation policy strives to be equitable and transparent. The salary for this position starts at $140,309 and goes up to $184,636 commensurate with experience and qualifications.
