In this role, you will lead teams of software engineers responsible for our InsightIDR product. The team is responsible for building the foundation services for the detection and response product on the Insight Platform. You will work closely with an outstanding peer group of highly skilled engineers to prioritise and set the teams' direction.
About the Team
Rapid7's Detection and Response product team is responsible for building solutions as part of our flagship product, InsightIDR.
Within this group, you will be working with the teams that are building out the frontend and site reliability services for InsightIDR, focused on the Log Search and shaed dashboard services in the product. InsightIDR is a cloud-based, microservice-designed architecture built with the mandate to ingest, monitor, and analyse log data from an organisation's environment in real time in order to raise the alarm if and when attackers hack their way into their network.

About the Role
As a Software Engineering Manager in the InsightIDR team, you will manage the day-to-day operations and address any issues that arise quickly and effectively. You will also coach, provide support, and mentor your team. The role also requires a deep understanding of the system, including involvement in reviewing designs andsetting product priorities.
You will also be responsible for keeping track of the projects the teams are working on, facilitating cross-team discussions when necessary, and deciding on the team's future direction (what projects they will focus on next). You will collaborate with Product, DevOps, and other development teams to deliver best-in-class solutions for our customers.
You'll work directly with, but not limited to, the following technologies:
AWS (EC2, RDS, DynamoDB, S3, VPC networking, Network Firewall, etc.), MySQL, Redis, Cassandra, Elasticsearch, Java, Spring Boot, Reactlarge scale distributed systems, Terraform, Jenkins, GitHub
In this role, you will:
- Directly manage multiple team members, coach and mentor team members, including scoping work and prioritising tasks
- Mentor engineers and help them grow their skills, identify growth areas, set expectations, and provide feedback
- Lead your teams to develop new performant UIs and to enhance/add new features.
- Managing projects and socialising progress across engineering teams and leadership
- Keep a keen eye on quality, and continue to drive improvements to testing, monitoring and alerting
- Work cross functionally with PM and Engineering to address specific customer pain points and to think strategically about the future direction of the product
- Work closely with other managers and teams across the InsightIDR team to align efforts and initiatives
- Kickstart new ideas, build proof of concepts and jumpstart newly funded projects
- Lead JIRA boards, architectural discussions and technical design sessions
The skills you'll bring include:
- A track record for mentoring and growing software engineers at all levels
- A demonstrable passion for all things software engineering, including knowledge of designing and implementing reliable architectures in cloud environments using SRE principles
- An understanding of the software development lifecycle
- Experience working cross-functionally with PM and Engineering teams
- Experience with managing multiple high-impact projects
- Capable of managing high-intensity situations when they arise
- BEng, BSc, or related technical field or equivalent practical experience
