The Opportunity: 

The Manager of PR & Global Brand Communications will join a dynamic team that supports Mattel’s products and campaigns with best-in-class communications strategies that create maximum value for the company. The position is located in El Segundo, California, and reports to the Director of Global Brands Communication. This position is responsible for creating and executing public relations campaigns in partnership with the Director, focused on the American Girl (AG) brand as well as supporting pan-Mattel programming across the year.

Working alongside the Director, the Manager will work closely with multiple cross-functional partners including marketing, design, AG retail and editorial, franchise, social and legal teams, plus licensors/licensees as appropriate.  This role will assist in creative and impactful storytelling to strengthen the brand's reputation among the public. This role will also work closely with, and occasionally lead, external agency partners in the implementation of publicity campaigns, as well as all the associated day-to-day activities utilizing internal and external resources in the development of materials; managing media relations and initiating strategies against marketing/brand objectives to generate positive brand/product publicity; planning for and overseeing any potential crisis management issues, and measuring effectiveness of communications of campaigns by analyzing and reporting results/findings.

What Your Impact Will Be: 

  • Help drive all aspects of PR and communications campaigns in partnership with the Director. Collaborate and partner with cross-functional teams and, when appropriate, licensors/licensees to create, process, and approve materials and plans designed to communicate brand initiatives and generate publicity by leveraging press and other earned platforms.
  • Create effective pitch points and develop messaging documents for key brand campaigns to support AG frontline associates (retail/customer service) as well as to brief/prep Brand executives to use as their platform for interviews and speaking opportunities.
  • Support and serve as point of contact for external speaking opportunities and press extensions as appropriate.
  • Draft executive social media posts related to Mattel products and programming.
  • Successfully assist in managing complex, fast-moving and unexpected communications challenges.
  • Facilitate and own media relations, including maintaining regular contact with trade, industry, business, entertainment, and consumer journalists, external experts, and influencers, and helping coordinate press moments for the company, including visits or events at AG retail stores as appropriate.
  • Assist in creating forward-looking plans and handle various details around tentpole marketing programs, supporting partner management, internal partners, and external PR agencies.
  • Develop materials using internal and external resources and consult on social media and influencer strategies designed to generate positive brand/product publicity.
  • Measure the effectiveness of communications campaigns to gain insights around results, inform reporting of findings to brand teams, and implement learnings to future campaign strategies.

Qualifications

What We’re Looking For: 

  • An interest and passion for purposeful impact in children’s lives around the world
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Journalism, Communications, Marketing or Public Relations
  • Minimum of 7+ years of PR experience, preferably in an agency or in-house CPG company
  • A solutions-oriented mindset with the ability to perform and complete tasks in partnership with the Global Brand Communications team and cross-functional partners in an efficient and high-quality manner
  • Strong teamwork skills and flexibility to pivot quickly when necessary
  • Strong writing, communication and presentation skills, as well as flawless editing skills with an attention to detail
  • Highly organized, independent and detail-oriented with excellent follow up skills
  • Ability to persuade, influence and articulate messaging to key opinion leaders across various mediums
  • Candidate must have the ability to efficiently handle and time-manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment and adapt to shifting priorities
  • Demonstrate a strong interest and understanding of pop culture, social, traditional media and the toy industry

The annual base salary range for this position is between $112,000 and $140,000.
**This range is indicative of projected hiring range, however annual base salary will be determined based on a candidate’s work location, skills and experience.
