Job Description

Role Summary/Purpose

The Steampath TL within the SP Service ISD Engineering organization will provide technical direction for Steampath teams globally across GE SP Services. The teams are responsible for the development and preparation of technical designs and documentation for steam turbine Steampath service, replacement-in-kind and upgrade projects.

Essential Responsibilities

Demonstrates accountability for functional, business, and broad company objectives in the field of Steampath Engineering. Integrates and develops processes that meet business needs across the organization. Involved in long-term planning. This role contributes to the overall strategy and manages complex issues within Steampath Engineering.

  • Introduce engineering solutions to meet near term and long range needs of Steampath Engineering;
  • Contribute to the day to day operations providing technical leadership to the team supporting ITO, OTR and NPI projects and including design reviews;
  • Review and Approve Steampath outputs as part of the ITO, OTR and NPI processes;
  • Remains cognisant of state-of-the-art in the area of technology features, design processes and software development;
  • Identify gaps and recommend where improvement in the knowledge of Steampath Engineering is needed or where technical training is required;
  • Support other GE businesses, internal & external customers, and suppliers as required.
  • Provide technical consultation to cross-functional teams throughout the business to improve or resolve manufacturing, product center, supplier, or field issues.
  • Effectively communicate and provide recommendations through the analysis, preparation and presentation of technical data to internal and external GE customers using reports, records, and letters.
  • Use knowledge and expertise to market winning proposals in anticipation of business product needs.
  • Prepare invention disclosures to protect technology that gives the business a competitive advantage, as well as protecting the intellectual property rights of the company.
  • Lead and/or support study teams or RCA investigations to address various technical problems;
  • Provide leadership and technical direction in all aspects of Productivity improvement initiatives.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Experience in engineering capacity. Direct experience of Steampath mechanical design and layout is required.
  • MEng / BEng (or equivalent) - Class 2:2 or above.

Desired Characteristics

  • Extensive experience of steam turbine Steampath design;
  • Experience and knowledge with Fitchburg & Lynn blading and diaphragm technology and manufacturing desirable;
  • Experience managing complex projects in a multi-disciplinary approach;
  • Demonstrated ability to document, plan, analyse market and manage programs that further the knowledge, understanding and capability of the business;
  • Problem analysis and resolution skills;
  • Demonstrated leadership in defining the state of the art in the field of Steampath mechanical design, along with the ability to lead, teach and mentor the teams and set standard practices;
  • Strong communication and presentation skills - experience successfully communicating with senior executives, both verbally and in writing;
  • A positive attitude with high levels of self-motivation;
  • Flexibility to travel to other locations in the GE network and to customer premises.
