Job Description Summary

GE Vernova's Onshore Wind business continues to expand across North America, and we are looking for a qualified and experienced Installation Manager to lead all aspects of wind turbine installation on site. This role is essential to ensuring the successful delivery of safe, high-quality, and timely turbine installations, in alignment with project goals and customer expectations.

The Installation Manager is a key member of the site leadership team and is responsible for supervising, coordinating, and optimizing all mechanical and electrical installation activities from site mobilization through turbine completion. The role reports directly to the North America Filed Operation Director and works closely with the Site Manager, Project Manager, Field Operations leadership, subcontractors, and cross-functional GE teams to drive execution excellence across the installation phase.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

Site Execution & Leadership

  • Lead all Installation Leads and Installation Technical Advisors (TAs) responsible for overseeing turbine installation activities, including tower erection, nacelle and rotor assembly, and component alignment.
  • Collaborate with the Installation Management Team to oversee GE-contracted Installation TAs, ensuring safe and efficient execution.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for daily installation operations, providing on-site leadership and technical direction.

Planning & Coordination

  • Collaborate with the Installation Operations Manager, Site Manager, and Project Manager to develop and maintain installation schedules aligned with the project's overall critical path.
  • Work with the Installation Operations Manager to coordinate resource planning, equipment logistics, and crane operations, ensuring optimal efficiency and avoiding delays.
  • Partner with the Commissioning Management Team, Center of Excellence (COE) Installation Team, Quality Team, and Engineering to ensure a smooth handover and on-time milestone achievement.

Quality, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure all installation activities meet GE Vernova's quality standards, customer specifications, and contractual requirements.
  • Enforce strict adherence to EHS protocols; conduct safety briefings and proactively identify and mitigate site risks.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation of installation records, deviations, and non-conformance reports (NCRs).

Team Development & Performance

  • Mentor and support GE Vernova field teams and subcontractor personnel to promote high performance, accountability, and compliance with installation procedures.
  • Ensure all personnel are properly trained, equipped, and qualified for their respective roles and responsibilities.
  • Foster a collaborative, respectful, and high-performing work environment, encouraging continuous improvement and adoption of best practices.

Process Improvement & Support

  • Participate in lessons learned sessions and root cause analyses to identify and implement improvements in installation methods and field execution.
  • Provide constructive feedback to Engineering, Methods and Process, and Tooling teams to enhance product installability and execution efficiency.
  • Support a seamless transition from installation to commissioning, minimizing rework and maximizing project readiness.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical field (OR a High School Diploma/GED with a minimum of 10 years of experience in wind turbine installation or large-scale field construction)
  • Minimum of 5 years of proven experience leading turbine installation activities, including tower erection, nacelle assembly, rotor lift, and mechanical/electrical alignment.

Desired Characteristics

  • Demonstrated experience managing subcontractors, and large field crews in a construction or energy environment.
  • Strong understanding of wind turbine components, installation sequences, and associated tooling and equipment.
  • Working knowledge of health, safety, and environmental standards (EHS), with a proven ability to lead and enforce safe work practices on active construction sites.
  • Experience interpreting technical documentation such as engineering drawings, lift plans, and site layouts.
  • Proficiency with project scheduling tools and reporting systems (SmartSheet, MS Project, Excel,SalesForce).
  • Ability and willingness to travel to remote project sites and work in outdoor conditions for extended periods.
  • Strong leadership skills with a proven ability to manage and motivate diverse teams in a fast-paced, field-based environment.
  • Experience working with large cranes, rigging, and heavy-lift operations specific to wind turbine installation.
  • Deep understanding of wind turbine mechanical and electrical systems, with the ability to troubleshoot installation challenges in real time.
  • Familiarity with GE turbine platforms and associated installation processes, tooling, and quality procedures.
  • Demonstrated success in coordinating with multiple stakeholders, including project management, commissioning, engineering, and subcontractors.
  • High level of quality and safety awareness, with experience in enforcing compliance with QA/QC and EHS standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex technical documentation such as turbine manuals, mechanical drawings, and lift plans.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills with a proactive approach to schedule management and resource optimization.
  • Effective communicator, capable of delivering clear direction, facilitating cross-functional collaboration, and escalating critical issues appropriately.
  • Adaptable and resilient under pressure, with the ability to manage change and unexpected challenges on active construction sites.
  • Committed to continuous improvement and process optimization to enhance field performance and reduce project risks.
  • Proficiency in digital tools and software platforms used for scheduling, reporting, and documentation in field operations.

Additional Information

The base pay range for this position is $100,000 to $166,000 USD annually. The specific compensation offered may vary based on several factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for additional incentives, which may include: Performance-based bonuses.
