GE Vernova's Onshore Wind business is rapidly expanding, and we are building a high-performing team of Lead Commissioners and Commissioning Specialists to support our growing project portfolio across North America. As part of this growth, we are seeking a qualified and committed Commissioning Manager (CM) to join our dynamic team and help lead commissioning efforts on complex wind projects.

The Commissioning Manager is a critical member of the NAM Projects Commissioning Management Team and plays a key leadership role when specialized scopes require focused oversight and execution. This role manages commissioning as a "project within the project," driving accountability, coordination, and operational excellence throughout the entire site lifecycle-from mobilization through final commissioning.

The Commissioning Manager will be responsible for oversight of all commissioning activities on customer sites, ensuring execution aligns with project timelines, safety standards, quality requirements, and customer expectations. This role operates with a level of autonomy while adhering to GE Vernova's policies and performance metrics.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

Commissioning Execution & Leadership

  • Lead and supervise Lead Commissioners and Commissioning Specialists during both the preparation and execution phases of the project.
  • Ensure commissioning tasks are carried out safely, efficiently, and in alignment with project schedules, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Provide on-site support and technical leadership to resolve challenges that may impact commissioning progress or safe operation.

Planning & Resource Management

  • Collaborate with the Commissioning Operations Manager to develop commissioning plans and resource staffing aligned with the project's critical path.
  • Allocate technicians and ensure resource development for all commissioning activities.
  • Support technical resource planning for turbine pre-commissioning, warranty support, parts, and tool logistics.

Project Integration & Quality

  • Ensure that commissioning scope is fully integrated into the overall project plan and aligned with contract objectives, in collaboration with the Project Manager, Site Manager, and NAM Field Operations Director.
  • Work with the Center of Excellence (COE) Quality Leader and Fulfillment team to validate that quality plans meet contract requirements and are aligned with the site readiness and test plans.
  • Ensure commissioning engineers and specialists have the required training, tools, and competencies to execute work safely and effectively.

Process & Risk Management

  • Identify and manage project-specific risks and opportunities related to the commissioning scope.
  • Drive continuous improvement in commissioning processes, including cost control, scheduling, and safety.
  • Ensure technical deviations are properly documented with Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and managed through standard procedures.

Technical Compliance

  • Partner with engineering and methods teams to ensure compliance with technical documentation and manage change through project procedures (WDI, TIL, etc.).
  • Review and refine commissioning procedures regularly with input from the Commissioning Operations Manager, Senior Commissioning Leads, and the COE.

EHS & Safety Leadership

  • Promote and enforce GE Vernova's EHS standards and procedures, ensuring all commissioning work meets or exceeds safety and environmental compliance.
  • Encourage team participation in safety programs and continuous improvement initiatives aimed at reducing incidents and improving site culture.
  • Train and mentor site teams on safe work practices, emergency response, and regulatory compliance.
  • Participate actively in emergency response and safety drills.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or equivalent technical field (or equivalent experience in lieu of a degree).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in wind turbine commissioning, construction, operations, or electrical/mechanical engineering roles.

Desired Characteristics

  • Field experience commissioning wind turbines, substations, or high-voltage equipment.
  • Leadership experience, ideally leading teams in field operations or commissioning environments.
  • Experience managing complex schedules, subcontractors, or multi-discipline teams on-site.
  • Experience in the wind industry with a focus on power conversion systems.
  • Proven experience in reporting, documentation control, and non-conformance report (NCR) management.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; proficient in IT systems and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work from as-built drawings and system schematics.
  • High degree of quality awareness and attention to detail.
  • Strong knowledge of wind turbine systems, including electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and SCADA systems.
  • Experience in testing, troubleshooting, and energizing wind turbine systems.
  • Familiarity with QA/QC procedures, test documentation, and punch list management.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and commissioning procedures.
  • Solid understanding of medium- and high-voltage systems (up to 34.5kV or higher).
  • Team-oriented, cooperative, and actively engaged in professional development.
  • Confident and adaptable personality with a proactive approach to challenges.
  • Highly flexible and motivated, with the ability to perform effectively under pressure.
  • Strong leadership capabilities and the ability to influence and support cross-functional teams.
  • Experience in wind project site construction, including oversight of subcontractor workforce.
  • Ability to enforce and maintain quality assurance and environmental compliance processes.
  • Knowledge of the specification, design, construction, maintenance, and commissioning of onshore wind projects.
  • Familiarity with the operation of wind turbine generator (WTG) systems, including pitch systems, yaw systems, cooling circuits, and hydraulic systems.

Additional Information:

The base pay range for this position is $100,000 to $166,000 The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for bonuses, such as a performance bonus/variable incentive compensation/equity. This position is expected to close on Tuesday July 17th, 2025.
