GM Defense - Accounting Manager
Job Description
The primary responsibilities of this position are to develop and oversee the financial reporting and Government accounting processes for GM's governmental contracting business unit, GM Defense. This position requires an understanding of internal and external reporting requirements and applicable technical accounting guidance associated with Government contracts. A U.S. citizen with a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a controllership leadership role for a federal Government defense contractor is a must. Work involves a high level of independent judgment, decision-making, attention to detail and initiative, as well as frequent coordination and communication with others across broader finance and operations in General Motors. Given the start-up nature of this business, this role will be key to the design and implementation of Government compliant accounting and reporting processes, systems, controls and staffing requiring strong project management skills.

Responsibilities
- Maintain Accounting systems as Accounting Manager for Government contracts
- Maintain understanding of, ability to apply and operationalize accounting and financial reporting standards (GAAP) and SEC rules
- Support Government Accounting and Compliance leader to ensure compliance with Government Accounting Standards (CAS) and Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR/DFARs)
- Support outside audits with outside independent auditors and regulatory agencies (DCAA), oversee preparation of required reporting and disclosures associated with accounting record keeping
- Monitor all aspects of the GM Defense ecosystem from production, distribution, sale, service, and warranty to connected services support for operationalizing appropriate accounting and reporting recognition
- Provide monthly and quarterly financial statement reviews of actual performance, including extensive balance sheet reviews
- Ownership of accounting review, including ensuring compliance with Senior Management Delegation of Authority, on all material contracts and services
- Develop and maintain strong internal controls and SOX compliance
- Identify, interpret and analyze potential accounting risks and issues
- Develop and maintain process flow documentation
- Proactively find opportunity for improvements and lead change
- Hire, train, coach, develop and evaluate employees
- Model GM's desired behaviors including safety
- Actively promote GM's culture of diversity, equity and inclusion
Qualifications - Basic Required
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience a technical accounting role with a government defense contractor
- Bachelor's degree with major in accounting
- CPA (certified public accountant)
- 7-10 years of relevant work experience in accounting/finance
- Experience with Sarbanes-Oxley compliance
- Familiarity with accounting processes including consolidation, financial reporting, etc.
- Ability to execute variety of accounting activities including processes to track costs, operational/transactional accounting activities, prepare financial reporting for GM's consolidated 10-Q/10-K reporting and standalone financial statements, financial controls, etc.
- Demonstrated ability to operate in high pressure situations independently
- Proven ability to operate and collaborate cross functionally
- Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated commitment to teamwork and partnerships
- Strong oral and written communications skills
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of corporate/unit policies and procedures
- Highly proficient personal computer skills and technology driven
- Demonstrated problem solving and analytical abilities where problems are complex
- Ability to prioritize assignments/projects and multi-task within restricted time constraints

Qualifications - Preferred
- Big 4 accounting experience
- Government contract accounting experience, Cost accounting standards and FAR/DFARs knowledge Experience/ knowledge of Hyperion Financial Systems
- Experience with SAP ERP implementation

Additional Description
Location: This role is based remotely but if you live within a 50-mile radius of (Atlanta, Austin, Detroit, Warren, Milford or Mountain View), you are expected to report to that location three times a week, at minimum.
Compensation:
The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws.
The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position, as well as geography of the selected candidate.
- The salary range for this role is $110,000 - $172,100. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
- Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
