This role is based in Cleveland, Ohio, and is a hybrid work arrangement - individuals may be required to work some days in the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland while working the other days from home.

Organizational Expectations:

As an Application Architect Senior, you will work with architects, developers, product team members, customers, and stakeholders across the organization to develop resilient, secure, and scalable application architecture in both on-premises and Cloud environments. You will be seen as a leader and subject matter expert who drives technical performance for major programs and System-wide initiatives. Your decisions will have significant impact on day-to-day operations related to your assigned product(s).

As the primary architect for at least one program, you are expected to provide architectural direction through models, diagrams, and documentation that define and describe the goals the system is trying to achieve, the processes needed to be performed to meet these goals, the information needed to perform these processes, and the organizational alignment and responsibilities needed to perform the required activities. Viewed as a Subject Matter Expert and leader within the organization, you will also provide coaching and mentoring to junior-, mid-, and senior-level employees.

General Responsibilities:
  • Sets the architecture standards for complex development projects
  • Key consultant in business process analysis, design, and service delivery
  • Portfolio "auditor" to ensure conformance and compliance of projects and programs with architect guidelines. Essentially the "voice of the customer" during development activities.
  • Defines processes for updates and maintenance of key Architecture deliverables
  • Provides architectural leadership in the resolutions of inter-program and inter-project issues.
  • Leads publicity and communication of the Architecture within the product teams and business units.
  • Leads research and assessment of new approaches for potential use within the Enterprise.
  • Establishes comprehensive knowledge of the existing architecture, technology, and solutions portfolio, and continually assesses its alignment with industry architecture standards and the organization's technology portfolio.
  • Understands, supports, and socializes the business, technical, and architecture aspects of enterprise solutions that are complex, strategic, and high-profile.
  • Serves as a consultant to business areas, clients, and customers to select the best technology solutions to meet business needs.
  • Expertly communicates across all levels of the organization, from customers to technical peers to senior management, including the delivery of highly technical information in a consumable format.
  • Researches, develops, documents, and recommends plans for investing in sound solution architecture principles and emerging technologies which will reduce cost, increase security, remove redundancies, and/or improve systems flexibility.
  • Builds and maintains strategic relationships with key external technology providers and business partners to keep current on industry developments, emerging software trends, and shifts within the solutions and architecture community.
  • Contributes to operational (near-term), tactical (1-2 years) and strategic (3-5 years) planning.
  • Assists in identifying, recruiting, and training business and technical talent.
  • Works independently, receiving minimal guidance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested
  • Adhere to the Bank's attendance policies through regular and prompt attendance
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 10 years of related work experience; including 7-10 years as a business, solutions, or enterprise architect, or in a technical product role
Knowledge and Skills:
  • 3+ years working with cloud-based platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) in an enterprise environment.
  • 5+ years of experience with Java application architecture, related tools and technologies
  • Experience with APIs and various authorization models
  • Experience developing solutions in an Agile environment
  • AWS cloud experience and/or certification
  • Concepts, techniques, approaches, and methods for data architecture within payment systems, tiered web applications and infrastructure and multi-cloud environments
  • Familiarity with Government compliance and controls (SAFR/NIST/FISMA/FedRAMP) preferred
Physical Demands and General Working Conditions:

Employees typically sit most of the day, work with a computer and may answer/respond to phone calls. Physical movement consists of walking for meetings, breaks, etc. Ability to lift items weighing approximately 20 pounds on a limited basis is required. Employees may be required to travel by car/air, as needed.
