This Lead Data Platform Engineer role is based within our Data Platform function. Data Platform creates tools, platforms and software for our Data and Software Engineers to use, with a focus on scalability and infrastructure.

In this specific team, you will be responsible for leading the vision and building our Data API tooling. As a Lead, you'll have a strong technical background; the ability to consider both the short and long-term roadmap and the impact to internal technology teams; as well as constantly assessing priorities and team needs.

The team and role is a fairly rare mixture of an established and mature data function overall, but working in a team that is still young and emerging. It's an opportunity to lead and influence the building of an enterprise API solution for the data teams and wider business to use. There is a lot of room for growth and taking on new challenges, with the support of a developed function with defined processes in place.

Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Building highly scalable and available systems used by Data and Software Engineers, capable of efficiently serving hundreds/thousands of API calls simultaneously
  • Being responsible for the conception, design, development, and deployment of data architecture
  • Providing leadership for the architectural direction (ensuring system integrity), and provide consultation to agile teams
  • Encouraging the adoption of an organization's frameworks by providing documentation, training, sample code, and developer support
  • Implementing Software Development Kits (SDKs) and APIs at scale using Java, Python, or other Object Oriented Programming languages

What We're Looking For

  • Experience building scalable systems with Java and Python within data
  • A particular focus or interest in building APIs (we use Trino and Kong)
  • Solid understanding of the infrastructure set-up behind a scalable data platform and the software engineering design patterns to build it
  • Experience with AWS as a cloud environment and associated tools (EKS, EMR, Redshift, Postgres)
  • Experience, or interest in orchestration and processing methods of large workloads using distributed data systems such as Airflow, Spark, Hadoop, and Trino
  • Experience, or interest in processing real-time streaming workloads with distributed event systems such as Kafka, Kinesis, Google PubSub, Flink, or Spark Streaming

What You Can Expect

  • Interesting work - working in a fast-paced and ever-changing industry, new problems and exciting solutions are never too far away. There are always opportunities to learn new skills and broaden your horizons
  • A sense of achievement - Our teams own their own software and when that awesome new feature ships to users and the positive feedback starts rolling in, you can feel really proud of what you and your team created
  • Personal development - clear and defined career pathways for every role at every level, a supportive manager, loads of learning opportunities and even 10% of your time to dedicate to your learning.
  • Belonging - everyone at FanDuel works for each other, we win together, make mistakes together and have lots of fun doing it.
  • Trust - A trusting work environment where productivity is valued above all else, giving you autonomy and ownership of your time and work
  • Great financial package - Including salary, bonus, pension, private healthcare, share save scheme, flexible working & holiday policy along with a number of other benefits.
