Director of Purchasing and Inventory Management

Akron, OH

The Director, Purchasing and Inventory Management is responsible for managing and leading a team of Buyers to procure high quality products while optimizing inventory across the supply chain to achieve high performance for customer service and asset management.

Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Oversees execution of Purchasing and Inventory Planning for supplier branded and commodity products, while actively pursuing ways to improve results.
  • Develops a strong understanding of the inventory planning system and works closely with each buyer to strive for optimal results through leveraging system functionality and available information.
  • Works with Buyers to establish goals and objectives and provides continuous mentoring, coaching, and developmental opportunities to enable each associate to realize their full potential.
  • Handles escalation discussions with suppliers regarding delivery or quality performance issues.
  • Responsible for maintaining sufficient levels of inventory to meet customer demand while achieving the company’s asset management objectives.
  • Ownership of inventory/purchasing for certain buy-lines, as needed, to provide department capacity and to ensure a strong understanding of buyer responsibilities and challenges.

Required Experience and Skills

  • 10+ years of relevant business experience
  • Develop processes in alignment with corporate vision, mission and goals, and oversee execution.
  • Confidence to make decisions and operate with the proper balance between long and short-term objectives.
  • Foster openness, team mentality and cohesiveness, while creating a climate where creativity and risk-taking are acceptable.
  • Possess the ability to effectively lead associates.
  • Possess the ability to identify and develop possible resolutions to problems.
  • Able to effectively communicate.

Preferred Experience and Skills

  • 10+ years of relevant business experience

Formal education in Supply Chain related field and/or APICS certification a plus
