We provide the best, most complete, and most accurate real-time flight-tracking service and are proud to have built a wide variety of successful products on this foundation that have become central to the aviation industry at large.As an Engineering Manager, Web at FlightAware you'll provide leadership, technical guidance, and product vision to a team of web engineers and collaborate with cross-functional partners to design and develop services, products, and infrastructure used by thousands of customers each day. FlightAware's product and service portfolio is expansive, and you will operate across FlightAware's industry-leading website, paid aviation products, customer-facing APIs, integral systems like authentication, billing, and authorization, and more. In this role, you will lead, support, and inspire the engineers in your team. As a hands-on leader, you'll help them fulfill technical, operational, and business requirements. You'll work alongside senior engineers and partners across Product, Design, Sales, Marketing, and Engineering to guide architecture and delivery of major infrastructure and product improvements. Education & Experience:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience
Qualifications you must have:

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future. RTX will not offer sponsorship for this position.
  • Software engineering leadership experience working with and managing engineers across several specialties creating, delivering, and operating highly reliable, scalable services and products.
  • Individual contributor engineering experience with fluency in HTML, CSS, and Javascript/ES6, plus experience with Typescript, Go, Next.js, React, Astro, Tailwind, Daisy, NX, or PostgreSQL. You have a demonstrated ability to represent your team and the work to audiences with differing levels of technical fluency.
  • Experience with system/software architecture design, building large web applications and interactive experiences.
  • Hiring manager experience with the full recruitment lifecycle including attracting, recruiting, and retaining top engineering talent.
Skills we value:

  • Experience with cloud technologies like AWS, Cloudflare, Vercel, Netlify, or similar.
  • Experience with microservice and API design, such as OpenAPI specifications and graphql concepts and schemas.
  • Experience in 2D/3D GIS, mapping technologies, and high-performance map rendering in a web environment (such as Maplibre, Deck.GL, D3, or similar).
  • Experience with cloud native methods, architectures, and technologies, like DevSecOps, Open Telemetry, Docker, Kubernetes, Knative, Grafana, Helm, or Istio.
  • Expertise in system reliability or front-end user interface design and implementation.
  • Execution focused with an ability to navigate ambiguity. Have worked successfully in a small company or an entrepreneurial environment.
  • Interpersonal skills and high emotional intelligence. Deeply empathetic and caring. You possess a willingness to empower and inspire commitment and a positive attitude in a team.
  • Ability and willingness to be hands-on when needed.
  • An agile mindset with a focus on learning, rapid iteration, continuous improvement, and an openness to new approaches.

The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
