Hopeful for those we support, rebellious in our approach, and collaborative by breaking down barriers, AccessHope is seeking an Oncology Data Abstractor to help us uniquely deploy the latest cancer knowledge to the places it's needed most. As an ideal candidate, you'll work independently and as part of a team, to collaborate with subject matter experts, physicians, nurse practitioners, clinical specialists, and leadership to review and abstract medical records, and help draft oncology narratives documenting the diagnosis, course of treatment, clinical outcomes; and other facets of care for oncology members utilizing AccessHope services template and methodologies. Provides documents in compliance with AccessHope standard formats and documentation standards.

Key Responsibilities include:

The following framework illustrates essential functions which are required for the success of the role.
  • Review member records and abstracts relevant oncology history to create a clinical summary draft of a member's diagnosis and treatment timeline
    • Partner with internal and external sources to request and gather medical records, lab reports, and other pertinent member records for review
    • Demonstrate excellent attention to details as the individual review's member files, completes forms and records with accuracy, and ensures files and summaries are accurate to member details
  • Sort medical records and save in appropriately labeled folders to shared drive
  • Create a clinical narrative summary draft to include the onset, diagnostic findings, treatment regimen history, and recommendations in sequential order.
  • Collaborate with teammates and utilizes the AccessHope on-line library
  • Practice a high level of integrity and honesty in maintaining confidentiality
  • Follow established AccessHope and department policies, procedures, objectives, performance improvement, attendance, safety, environmental, and infection control guidelines including adherence to the workplace Code of Conduct and Compliance Plan
  • Embody the team vision
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested
Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:
  • Associate degree in a healthcare related major
  • Two (2) years of clinical oncology experience as a clinical research professional, abstract writer, or similar experience
  • Must have strong Oncology experience
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently
  • High sense of urgency to meet deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Work collaboratively across cross-functional teams and entities
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Prioritize and perform multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to adjust to rapidly changing environment
Preferred education experience and skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in a healthcare related major
  • Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP)
  • Experience in oncologic nursing, pharmacy, medical technology, business
  • Microsoft (MS) Office365, MS Office (Excel, Word, PPT), MS TEAMs, PeopleSoft, Slack, Zoom, Salesforce.com. Use of email and other electronic forms of communications is a position requirement. administration, health record management, or other related clinical field
Additional Information:
  • To protect the health of patients and staff and to comply with new State of California mandates, City of Hope staff are required to show proof of full vaccination by September 30, 2021. Compliance is a condition of employment.
