POSITION SUMMARY:

In order to achieve that we are seeking a skilled, self-motivated Quality Manager to lead all clinical data quality activities and function as quality subject matter expert for the clinical data team and cross-functional team of IT, engineering, data scientist, medical, and scientific staff.

This role includes designing and establishing requirements and workflows for monitoring and controlling clinical data quality, project management, and professional communication responsibilities on high impact, high visibility data products.

The basics
  • Establish QA and QC governance frameworks, policies, and procedures
  • Function as the first escalation point of medical questions raised by clinician abstractors, external abstraction partners, and IT and Engineering staff
  • Provide medical and clinical guidance concerning the program's data ontologies, data relationships, and abstraction rules used for the Clinicogenomics platform
  • Lead data quality meetings consisting of medical officers (physicians/clinicians), clinician abstractors, and various levels of staff to resolve abstraction and clinical data discrepancies
  • Analyze complex data and transform the data into insights to inform business decisions around data quality, use, completeness, and efficiency
  • Work with software engineers, developers, and biostatisticians to design the creation and development of data quality pipelines and workflows, including automation
  • Provide training and coaching to abstractors and other staff
  • Conduct quality auditing, validation, and tracking using automated means, while identifying data quality issues using quality assessment reports
  • Design and implement data quality corrective measures to align abstraction, extraction, and other clinical data management activity to ensure the program produces high-quality data
  • Monitor the program's staff performance through the generation of accuracy rates and other related metrics
  • Manage and track the quality of clinical data throughout the entire data pipeline by writing SQL queries and scripts to identify data completeness and data errors
  • Advise the Director, Clinical Data, medical and other scientific officers on quality models, tools, and procedures for maintaining and ensuring high-quality abstracted data
  • Maintain confidential, accurate, and detailed records and reports
  • Responsible for attending cross-team meetings and reporting relevant cross-team updates, dependencies, and needs directly to the Director, Clinical Data
  • Build and maintain ongoing strong working relationships with stakeholders, focus on building effective communication channels
  • Performing other duties as assigned

  • Work on the forefront of genomics research enablement by establishing clinical data quality frameworks and ensuring high-quality rich and longitudinal data is accessible through the Clinicogenomics platform
  • Guide the implementation of established quality frameworks by leading IT and Engineering experts
  • Utilize platforms like Snowflake to operate automated quality pipelines to monitor and control clinical data quality
  • Lead the development and maintenance of clinical data abstraction and extraction data dictionaries and rules

The essentials
  • This role works with Protected Health Information (PHI) regularly both in paper and electronic form and has access to various technologies to access PHI (paper and electronic) to perform the job
  • Employees must complete HIPAA/PHI privacy training, General Policies and Procedure Compliance training, and security training. Must maintain a current status on Natera training requirements
  • Employees must pass a post-offer criminal background check


  • QUALIFICATIONS:
    • SQL experience required (only candidates with SQL experience will be considered)
    • BS or MS in a health-related, bioinformatics, data science field
    • Currently certified Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, and Nurses only (only candidates with such certifications will be considered)
    • 6+ years of clinical data quality review and monitoring experience and leading data quality programs and teams
    • 3+ years of clinical data abstraction experience. Requires direct experience with medical record abstraction across multiple platforms (paper records, different electronic medical record systems, EDC, registries, etc.)
    • Must have strong clinical and medical data experience (only candidates with current certification as Physician Assistant, Nurse Practitioner, or Nurse will be considered)
    • Strong communication skills and comfortable speaking and engaging with physicians, scientists, engineers, and other executives
    • Must be familiar with standard clinical data models, data harmonization, and standardization
    • Must be familiar with various clinical data ontologies such as ICD-9-CM and SNOMED CT
    • US "licensed nurses, Physician Assistants, or Nurse Practitioners certification required.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
    • Experience providing ongoing follow up and coaching
    • Ability to work independently, with little to no direction, and as part of a team
    • Strong organizational and communication skills
    • In-depth attention to detail and a fast learner
    • Experience working with startup companies and well-established organizations
    • Ability to interact with various levels of staff and external customers
    • Possess a high level of initiative and self-motivation
    • Strong computer and Microsoft Office skills
    • Experience working with multiple monitors
    • Strong familiarity with data abstraction tools, EDCs, and registries and working with system change requests, and providing design input
    • Medical terminology experience
    • Experience creating or supporting the creation of abstraction business rules, policies and procedures, quality review plans and practices, and data management plans
    • Experience with achieving and assessing abstraction quality and productivity requirements
    • Experience providing statistical reports on patient data or trends as a result of abstraction efforts (strong data analysis skills)
