This role is based in Amsterdam


The CBO (Chief Business Officer) Office is responsible for leading business operations (annual and quarterly planning and governance/rhythm of the business), program management and change management for the CBO organization. This team reports to the Chief Business Officer (via the Senior Director, a member of the CBO Leadership Team) and works with (senior) leadership across the organization, both in CBO and in Booking's corporate functions (HR/People, Finance, Legal, and Corporate Strategy), to enable Booking.com to achieve its strategic and operational goals.

The Program Manager, CBO Office will report to the Director, CBO Program Management and be one of the (senior) PMs in the PMO team. You will be the program manager for a number of cross-functional programs/initiatives spanning across the business units in CBO, across the company and working with Booking Holdings (BHI). In H2 2024 you will likely be the program manager to lead one of our (future) Large Horizontal Programs.

Key Job Responsibilities and Duties

Program Standards (40-45%)

Lead the work to create and drive adoption of Booking's new Program Standards, working closely with the BU PMO Leads and the broader PMO Community;This is a multiphase program with key deliverables in H2 2024 and 2025.
  • Large Horizontal Programs (30-40%)
    • Ensure our major cross-functional programs (LHPs) are in a healthy state, working closely with the LHP PMs to drive adoption of the Program Standards;
    • As of H2 2024 you will likely also be the PM for one of the (future) LHPs.
Community (10-15%)Play a leading role to (re)activate the PMO community (part of the broader SBOPC craft) by being a driving force (actively sharing knowledge, initiating activities and events, and motivating peers to contribute and collaborate).

Note: Time allocation (%) is an estimate based on the scope for H2 2024 and may change as needed.

Role Qualifications and Requirements

Program Management

Experience as Lead PM having successfully led multiple cross-functional programs/initiatives, driving the program end-to-end (from initiation to close), ideally in a(n international) matrixed organization;
  • Experience leveraging multiple project/program management methodologies.
  • Program Standards: Passionate about bringing structure and guidance to project/program management;
  • Experience having defined and implemented Program Standards, ideally in an international matrixed organization;
  • Strong preference for candidates who also have experience leading the process of selecting a project/program management tool;
  • Ideally have experience using (and driving adoption of) Jira and Asana.

Stakeholder Management
    • Experience with and commitment to achieving results by collaborating closely with peers across the organization (Booking.com and BHI), including driving for alignment;
    • Experience building strong, productive relationships with leadership (Booking ELT level);
    • Ability to articulate benefits (e.g. of a program approach) and influence stakeholders at all levels in order to drive adoption;
    • Seniority to comfortably interact frequently with (and influence) our most senior leadership (Booking VPs/SVPs).

    • Attitude: Has a positive attitude and a desire and commitment to make things happen. Is forward-looking, focused on achieving progress and moving forward, while taking a pragmatic approach;
    • Communication: Effective communicator (written and spoken), creating clear, timely and impactful communication, tailored to different audiences. Comfortable presenting to (senior) leadership;
    • Proactive: Able to handle ambiguity well and to proactively and with limited guidance craft a path forward, aligned with business needs;
    • Problem Solving: Ability to recognize challenges and opportunities and to define an end-to-end plan to address them (from analysis to solution and implementation), including acquiring buy-in/support from stakeholders.
