Senior Specialist, Corporate Tax

Overview

Works with senior management to ensure that the appropriate corporate tax policies, methods, standards, processes, reporting, and training are developed, applied, and understood by impacted stakeholders. Extensive knowledge of corporate tax processes and in-depth knowledge of tax support requirements within a particular business/business partner area.

The Project Manager will:

  • Work with Corporate Tax, technology, vendors, and external accounting firms to gather facts and develop strategies to ensure compliance with Tax Information Reporting and Withholding (IRW) procedures
  • Work with teams to optimize tax processes and leverage technology
  • Manage the build out and phased roll out of an electronic Form W-9 / W-8 platform and a wide range of other tax regulatory projects
  • Manage and oversee end-to-end project management activities such as project reporting, project planning, issue/risk identification and tracking, scope management, estimation, client management, relationship management and other project documentation preparation for projects of medium to high complexity.
  • Assist in the development of detailed project plans and project scheduling including goals definition, risk management and resource allocation. Monitors project results for significant deviations
  • Perform research to provide senior management with recommendations and opinions by applying tax concepts
  • Works with management to identify the most relevant Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Key Risk Indicators (KRIs)
  • Monitor and manage business performance and reviews and ensures accuracy with the metrics tracking mechanisms and develops solutions from the outcomes of the scorecard reporting
  • Oversee, mentor and trains junior tax staff on specific aspects of tax regulations, tax reporting, accounting, and compliance matters
Responsibilities are primarily specialized to address the corporate tax needs for major tax IRW strategic initiatives.

Required Qualifications
  • Experience with Tax technology and implementing large strategic firmwide initiatives
  • Experience documenting technical requirements/stories in JIRA and cross referencing them back to the business requirement
  • Managing and coordinating multiple projects simultaneously across different lines of business and functional areas
  • Collating project decks and leading meetings with different stakeholders and lines of business
  • Developing test script and performing user acceptance testing (UAT)
  • Tax operating model transformation, including process improvements
  • Ability to interact effectively with senior stakeholders across the organization
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio
Preferred qualifications include experience/familiarity with:
  • Tax Information Reporting and Withholding (e.g., 1446f, FATCA, NRA, BUW, 8966 Reporting)
  • IRS Tax forms W-8 and W-9, due diligence, and various tax onboarding, withholding reporting requirements
  • Developing test script and performing user acceptance testing (UAT)
  • Automation (e.g., including robotics, artificial intelligence, UI Path)
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification and/or Prince2 certification
  • Big 4 experience
  • Experience with PowerBI, Power Query, Python, Tableau,
Bachelor s Degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required. 7-10 years of total work experience in tax compliance and/or project management preferred. No direct reports

BNY Mellon assesses market data to ensure a competitive compensation package for our employees. The base salary for this position is expected to be between $79,000 and $175,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base salary if hired will be determined on an individualized basis, including as to experience and market location, and is only part of the BNYM total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, short and long-term incentive packages, and Company-sponsored benefit programs.
This position is at-will and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, change in geographic location, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
