Director, Accounting

Krakow, Poland

We are looking for an EMEA Controller to help lead our regional Accounting team, which is primarily based in Krakow, Poland. This is a critical role to support the growth of Zendesk as we scale our global business to multiple billions of dollars in revenue. Reporting into the VP, Corporate Controller, this person is expected to provide leadership, process knowledge, regional expertise, and cohesion across the Accounting organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee core accounting activities in EMEA, including close coordination, flux reviews, consolidations and general accounting.
  • Coordination and review of annual financial statement preparation by entities' controllers.
  • Manage annual statutory audits, providing pragmatic solutions and alternatives to challenging audit requests and inquiries.
  • Identify risk areas and implement mitigation strategies, including but not limited to team structure, workflow, cross-functional collaboration and system and process changes.
  • Have the ability to pivot based on changing business needs, while keeping the Accounting team in a steady state.
  • Collaborate with partners in and outside of finance to build scalable processes to support growth.
  • Maintain relationships with third-party service providers.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally on special projects, including M&A integrations, system implementations, new compensation structures, and more.
  • Interact with senior executives regarding financial matters as needed.

Qualifications and education

  • 10+ years of relevant accounting experience.
  • Appropriate educational background and professional certifications.
  • Passionate about mentoring others.
  • Comfortable driving change and navigating through uncertainty.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage competing priorities, and adhere to deadlines.
  • Ability to build new capabilities, with a process orientation.
  • High emotional intelligence, ability to build and sustain relationships at multiple levels within and outside of finance.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, active listener, tailors communication to the audience.
  • Experience with NetSuite preferred.
