Your New Role...

The Transmission Maintenance Engineer I is responsible is to provide technical operation support for satellite and fiber optic television transmissions from internal and external event locations for both live & taped events. This includes all aspects of transmission equipment set-up, operation, signal acquisition, quality control & enhancement, distribution, and identification and removal of possible disruptive components within the signal stream. This position must devise immediate and viable solutions to issues that do or can affect air quality.

The TMEI will closely interact with vendors to troubleshoot transmission related equipment, including satellite receivers, satellite antenna systems, frame synchronizers, routers, MPEG and RF analyzers, and computer network management systems. This position will be responsible for maintaining and programming transmission related equipment such as receivers, decoders, frame syncs and other live broadcast equipment.

This position requires technical operations skills, computer operation skills and organizational skills. Must possess a solid knowledge of TCP/IP, SNMP, IP addressing, and network server operation. Position must also have a good working understanding of MPEG-2, MPEG-4 and JPEG 2000/JPEG Xs encoding, ASI transport, and QPSK, 8PSK, DVB and DVB-S2 compression/modulation formats. Must be comfortable troubleshooting various fiber optic systems. Must also have a thorough knowledge of various audio formats such as Dolby-PL2, Dolby-AC-3 and Dolby-E. Must be comfortable operating various test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, MPEG analyzers, SDI analyzers, IP prisms etc. Must be able to troubleshoot issues with complex systems in a quick and efficient manner.

Position must be able to work under constantly changing pressure levels and rotating schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Your Role Accountabilities...

Operational and Technical Execution:

  • Perform daily operations of the TOC, execute the transmission paths of live and recorded events and network signals. Follow departmental guidelines and best practices. Be the point of contact for all site related issues and actively communicate them throughout the organization. Provide daily reporting related to operational issues and/or Air impacting events.

Knowledge Sharing:

  • This position should update documentation and refine SOPs to reflect changes in technology and workflow. They should be able to communicate effectively to management, customers, and the wider TOC team.

Workflow efficiencies, Change Management:

  • Define new and creative ways to implement workflow changes to gain efficiency for the business by engaging the team and customer needs with innovative and cost-effective solutions.

Qualifications & Experiences...

  • 2+ Years of live event technical operational experience
  • Demonstrated understanding of MPEG compression technology
  • Demonstrated understanding of RF transmission technology.
  • Demonstrated understanding of fiber optic technology and broadcast satellite systems

Not Required but preferred experience:

  • Technical field experience with remote transmissions and systems
  • TV Engineering knowledge, background or experience
  • Effective communicator with Senior Executives, Clients and Vendor
