Your New Role...
The Director of Streaming [Content] Strategy & Analysis is responsible for supporting the data-driven content investment strategy for CNN's new streaming product. This role ensures that every dollar spent on content is backed by audience engagement, growth impact, and anticipated long-term sustainability.
Sitting at the intersection of content commissioning, audience analytics, and financial oversight, this leader will partner closely with the VP, Streaming Programming, Editorial & Programming Teams, Global News, Streaming Merchandising and Finance to establish a structured, insights-driven approach to commissioning and optimizing content across live news, VOD, and original programming.
This is a highly strategic, cross-functional role that requires strong analytical skills, stakeholder management, and deep expertise in streaming audience behavior. The ideal candidate must be comfortable operating in a matrixed environment, working with SVP-level stakeholders.
Your Role Accountabilities...
1. Content Investment Strategy & Budget Ownership
- Own and manage the content budget, ensuring all content spend decisions for the streaming product align with audience demand and financial objectives for the product.
- Develop a framework for content investment, balancing live programming, VOD, and original productions to maximize engagement and retention.
- Partner with Finance to forecast content ROI, ensuring responsible budget allocation and financial discipline in content spend.
- Lead cost-benefit analyses on programming initiatives, identifying areas to scale investment or cut underperforming content.
- Author, own, and iterate on Creative Briefs that define for content teams the audience needs we are solving for, what's working and what's not working within our product ecosystem and across the competitive landscape.
- Enable rapid experimentation in close partnership with Streaming Content and Merchandising leads and SVP Video Editorial by allocating budget to innovation efforts - collaborating deeply with Research and Data Analytics & Insights.
2. Content Commissioning & Final Review Process
- Drive the commissioning process in alignment with executive leadership, ensuring that new content spend is backed by audience insights and strategic objectives.
- Partner with CNN WW content leadership to assess new show concepts, talent-driven programming, and format experiments.
- Responsible for continuing efforts to elevate the company's ability to identify the right content for streaming
- Ensure that data-driven audience insights guide content decisions, balancing editorial creativity with measurable engagement potential.
- Partner with content and merchandising teams in developing a data-backed ROI business case for recommended programming slate, providing recommendations based on cost-per-engagement, completion rates, and new subscriber impact.
3. Audience Insights & Content Performance Analysis
- Drive the measurement of content performance in partnership with Data Intelligence, Growth and Streaming Merchandising, leveraging analytics to track viewership trends, retention drivers, and format effectiveness.
- Deliver monthly and quarterly performance reports to senior leadership, shaping long-term programming strategies.
- Identify what works and what doesn't-working with data to optimize content mix, and help identify opportunities to sunset underperforming formats, and double down on successful programming.
- In partnership with Audience teams, develop an audience segmentation strategy that is complementary and not cross-purposes, ensuring the streaming service caters to core viewership personas and emerging audience trends.
4. Collaboration & Stakeholder Management in a Matrixed Environment
- Act as the central bridge between Streaming Merchandising, Linear Programming, Content Development, Growth, Finance, and Talent teams, ensuring cross-functional alignment in pursuing new content spend.
- Work with SVP-level executives across the company to secure buy-in for content investments for the streaming product and strategic priorities.
- Influence decision-making without direct authority-navigating a high-stakes, matrixed environment while maintaining strong relationships and credibility.
- Translate complex data insights into clear, actionable recommendations that resonate with both creative teams and business executives.
5. Long-Term Content Strategy & Portfolio Optimization
- Develop a long-term content strategy roadmap, ensuring the service balances live, on-demand, and original programming effectively.
- Identify white spaces and market opportunities, ensuring the streaming service differentiates itself from competitors.
- Lead windowing strategies, determining the optimal release and distribution approach for each content type.
- Establish a best-in-class decision-making framework to ensure content spend is rationalized and audience-driven.
Qualifications & Experience...
Must-Haves:
- 12+ years of experience in content strategy, media analytics, content finance, or a related field, with at least 5 years leading teams in a streaming or digital media environment.
- Proven track record of developing and implementing content investment strategies in a streaming or digital video business.
- Deep expertise in audience data, content performance analytics, and digital viewership behaviors.
- Strong financial acumen, with experience managing large-scale content budgets and forecasting ROI.
- Experience working in a matrixed environment, collaborating with EVP/SVP-level executives and influencing without direct authority.
- Ability to translate complex data into strategic insights that inform programming and commissioning decisions.
- Expertise in content monetization models, including AVOD, SVOD, and hybrid business models.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with experience building and developing cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with content windowing strategies across linear, digital, and streaming platforms.
- Familiarity with business intelligence tools, audience analytics platforms, and content performance dashboards.
- Previous experience in news, documentary, or non-fiction programming.

Actual salaries will vary based on several factors, including but not limited to external market data, internal equity, location, skill set, experience, and/or performance. Base pay is just one component of Warner Bros. Discovery's total compensation package for employees. Pay Range: $136,570.00 - $253,630.00 salary per year. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards. In addition, Warner Bros. Discovery provides a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays and sick time and vacation.
