The Assistant Manager, Controllership plays a key supporting role in delivering statutory reporting, audits, accounting, and compliance activities across multiple Asian markets, including Singapore, Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia, India, China, and Hong Kong.
Working closely with the Accounting Manager, this role ensures accurate and timely financial reporting and regulatory compliance while also managing relationships with external service providers.
The Assistant Manager will take direct ownership of specific country portfolios and contribute to the coordination and oversight of outsourced accounting operations across the region.
This position requires strong technical accounting knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively across teams, functions, and time zones.
The Role
General Accounting
- Support the month-end close process including preparation of journal entries, P&L reviews, third party reporting, and variance analysis for assigned territories.
- Assist in the preparation and submission of statutory reports and audit deliverables in coordination with external providers and internal stakeholders.
- Monitor and reconcile intercompany transactions and support timely settlement of intercompany balances.
- Collaborate with the treasury team to provide required financial data and assist in managing cash balances and banking activities.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date balance sheet reconciliations; assist in preparing quarterly balance sheet footnote disclosures.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls and support the implementation of WBD SOX policies across relevant entities.
- Respond to queries from internal departments and external auditors, ensuring timely and accurate resolution.
- Assist in identifying and implementing process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting.
- Coordinate with the technical team to troubleshoot and resolve system reporting issues.
- Support the review and documentation of internal controls and procedures to ensure alignment with corporate accounting policies.
- Participate in company initiatives such as system upgrades, process harmonization, and automation projects.
- Work closely with the Manager and team members to ensure consistency and accuracy in financial operations across the region.
Statutory Reporting
- Assist in the preparation and coordination of statutory reporting across assigned countries in Asia.
- Support the drafting of statutory financial statements in collaboration with EY and PwC.
- Act as a key point of contact for external auditors, helping to coordinate audit schedules, deliverables, and responses.
- Track and monitor statutory reporting timelines and assist in ensuring all deadlines are met.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to gather necessary documentation and support for audits and filings.
- Ensure reporting accuracy and compliance with local GAAP and internal policies.
- Maintain audit documentation and assist in the preparation of audit support files.
- Support the Manager in executing regional audit and compliance strategies, including process improvements and system enhancements.
Areas of Accountability
- Responsible for assigned countries in Asia on statutory reporting and compliance.
- Collaborate regularly with offshore accounting teams in a matrixed organization to ensure alignment and consistency in financial reporting.
Requirements:
- Part-qualified or fully qualified accountant (e.g., CPA, CA, ACCA); MBA or equivalent is a plus.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in accounting, with a strong foundation in financial reporting and compliance.
- Solid technical accounting knowledge, including month-end management accounting for both revenue and cost.
- Experience with US GAAP reporting and SOX compliance.
- Proficient in multi-currency reporting and working with international entities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and regions.
- Comfortable working in a matrixed organization and collaborating with offshore teams.
- Fluent in English and Mandarin; additional Asian languages are a plus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) is preferred.
