The Opportunity:

We are looking for multiple talented, curious, and energetic Software Engineers and Software Engineering Managers who embrace solving complex challenges on a global scale.  As a Visa Software Engineer, you will be an integral part of a cross-functional development team inventing, designing, building, and testing software products that reach a truly global customer base. While building components of cutting-edge payment technology, you will get to see your efforts shaping the digital future of monetary transactions.

The Work itself:

  • Design code and systems that touch 40% of the world population while influencing Visa’s internal standards for scalability, security, and reusability

  • Collaborate cross-functionally to create design artifacts and develop best-in-class software solutions for multiple Visa technical offerings

  • Actively contribute to product quality improvements, value added service technology, and new business flows in diverse agile squads

  • Develop robust and scalable products intended for a myriad of customers including end-user merchants, b2b, and business to government solutions

  • Leverage innovative technologies to build the next generation of Payment Services, Transaction Platforms, Real-Time Payments, and Buy Now Pay Later Technology

Essential Functions:

  • This unique role involves a blend of people management (initially 30%) and hands-on development (initially 70%), including design, code review, and mentoring junior team members. As our team and projects grow, the people management aspect of the role will also expand.

  • Proficient in analyzing & translating business requirements to technical requirements and architecture and working with cross functional teams

  • Participate in staffing decisions, including hiring and performance evaluations. Lead the hiring and expanding the initial team

  • Report the development progress to the management

  • Ensures that development team is producing high quality code

  • Maintains information security in the workplace and in the organization

  • Lead the design, development, and maintenance of efficient, reusable, and reliable Java code

  • Implement Spring (Boot) and Hibernate frameworks

  • Develop and maintain RESTful services

  • Work with Docker, Kubernetes, and Istio for containerization, orchestration, and service mesh

  • Supports relationship with product owners to gather and refine requirements for one product task, adding and taking into account existing tools and solutions within a product

  • Begins to develop and design architect solutions, considering integrations with other solutions

  • Provides relevant knowledge on the development of technical documentation of solutions and follows best practices in technical documentation

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features

  • Ensure the best possible performance, quality, and responsiveness of applications

  • Develop code that complies with design specifications

  • Participate code-review sessions not only as owner role but also in the reviewer role

  • Develop code that complies with secure coding guidelines and Visa Key Controls

  • Mentor junior developers and foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 5 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 3 years of work experience with a PhD degree
  • Proven experience as a Senior Developer
  • Proven experience in people management and team leadership
  • Strong knowledge of Java, Spring, Hibernate, and RESTful web services
  • Experience with distributed event store mechanisms such as Kafka
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and Istio
  • Experience with Agile Software Development Methodology
  • Experience with both NoSQL and SQL datastores and their query languages like SQL
  • Understanding of fundamental design principles behind a scalable application
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Strong communication and team collaboration skills
  • Familiarity with secure coding standards e.g. OWASP is plus
  • Skilled in using development tools like Git, Maven, Jenkins including source code control, debugging and profiling
