Purchaser Specialist

The Purchaser Specialist is responsible for leading towers and steel sourcing in North America while collaborating closely with global colleagues to deliver the most competitive procurement solutions for Vestas. This role implements highly effective procurement strategies focused on cost, quality, and on-time delivery, while collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

  • Define and implement procurement strategies for Direct Materials in North America (annual spend: $500M Euro).


  • Collaborate with local and global stakeholders (construction, sales, engineering, legal, etc.) to optimize cost competitiveness.


  • Manage regional supplier relationships and leverage global partnerships.


  • Oversee the implementation of strategic purchasing projects and generate relevant reporting materials such as business cases and presentations.


  • Develop supplier market intelligence and ensure accurate supply-base data is available for decision-making.


  • Oversee supplier development, contracting, and buy-to-pay processes, including risk management.


  • Act as the primary escalation point for supplier-related issues.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field.


  • Minimum of 7 years' experience in procurement or related business management roles.


  • Experience with contract negotiation and supplier management, including leading negotiations.


  • Familiarity with contract law, compliance, and procurement risk management.


  • Advanced Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP) and PowerPoint skills.


  • Experience with procurement software and platforms (e.g., SAP, Ariba, Coupa).


  • Industry experience in renewables, manufacturing, or energy.


  • Ability to travel 10-15% as needed.

Competencies:

  • Comprehensive understanding of global markets, material trends, and economic influences.


  • Strategic sourcing proficiency and ability to build and present business cases.


  • Skilled in supplier performance management and stakeholder engagement.


  • Effective communication skills (written and verbal) in technical and non-technical terms.


  • High-level business acumen (financial statements, inventory, EBIT, etc.).


  • Project management, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.


  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects under tight deadlines.


  • Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.


  • Capable of reading technical drawings and understanding manufacturing concepts (e.g., welding, machining).


  • Culturally aware with cross-functional and international team collaboration experience.


  • Self-motivated and capable of making independent decisions.


  • Multilingual abilities or international work experience is a plus.
