At JLL, we're seeking a hands-on Chief Engineer to oversee the maintenance and operation of all building systems. You'll develop and implement comprehensive maintenance plans, ensure site safety, and maintain crucial documentation. The role involves efficient work scheduling using CMMS, administering the JLL Client Assurance Program, managing major projects, and collaborating on financial targets. Proficiency in record-keeping, safety protocols, and project management is essential. Strong team leadership skills are required, as you'll be managing a team of engineers. This position may require occasional overtime, on-call duty, and travel between sites. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver with strong technical and interpersonal skills, ready to tackle diverse responsibilities while leading a team of building engineers in a dynamic environment.

  • Lead and supervise a team of building engineers and maintenance staff, managing priorities, shift staffing, hiring, training, and personnel development.
  • Foster a professional work environment that supports continuous improvement, soliciting new ideas to reduce risk and cost.
  • Ensure effective and thorough communication with the engineering team, facilities management staff, and clients.
  • Provide training to expand team capabilities through hands-on instruction in maintenance, safety, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Demonstrate proper use of tools and equipment, recommend relevant external training opportunities, and instill professional standards.

Technical Operations & Maintenance

  • Oversee the operation, maintenance, and modification of all building systems, including:
  • Mechanical: HVAC/R, computer room air conditioners, cooling towers, boilers, compressors, and plumbing
  • Electrical: UPS, diesel generators, automatic transfer switches, switchgear, lighting controls, and general electrical maintenance
  • Fire detection and suppression systems
  • Building Management Systems (BMS)
  • Aerial lift equipment
  • Develop and implement comprehensive maintenance strategies, including preventive, predictive, and corrective procedures.
  • Recognize system shortcomings, respond to operational and emergency situations, and provide technical guidance during real-time problem management.
  • Conduct regular facility inspections to evaluate the effectiveness of operations, maintenance programs, equipment, and personnel.

Safety & Compliance

  • Identify and remediate safety hazards to ensure staff and occupants work in a safe environment.
  • Maintain current infrastructure and compliance documentation, including building drawings, single-lines, permits, and maintenance records.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with Federal, State, and Local laws.

Project Management & Planning

  • Develop annual maintenance and capital plans for infrastructure upgrades, equipment replacements, and building modifications.
  • Provide technical input and support for facility projects, including construction support, commissioning, and final acceptance.
  • Oversee contractor activities, implementing advance training and notifications to ensure awareness of building's critical functions.
  • Serve in a consulting capacity for projects and new designs.

Documentation & Record Keeping

  • Maintain comprehensive records of building rounds, readings, engineering logs, and data sheets.
  • Ensure all building documentation remains current and accessible.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Perform other duties as required to meet client objectives and operational needs.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • 7+ years of related experience as a Chief Engineer and people manager in a commercial, industrial, or manufacturing environment
  • Experience using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and building automation systems (BAS)
  • Experience with preventative maintenance procedures
  • Certification in a related trade (HVAC, EPA, electrical, etc.)
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate well in both oral and written reports
  • Trade school education, union training, military service or college is desirable
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications and software such as MS Office, Slack, and email
  • Physical capability to lift up to 50 lbs. and to frequently climb, bend, kneel, lift and/or drive
  • Valid driver's license

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

  • Familiarity with Limble, Jira, or Green Max is a plus
  • Experience in data centers is a plus
  • Knowledge of manufacturing equipment maintenance
