General Summary:

Unum is seeking a Principal Business Analyst to support our high-impact Broker Connect Program. This PBA will serve as a strategic bridge between Change Leaders, Product Owners, and Agile teams, defining, refining, and guiding the delivery of business capabilities with a strong focus on business value and partner experience. You'll work closely with senior leadership, technology partners, and key business stakeholders, especially within Unum US, to ensure initiatives are clearly scoped, aligned with business objectives, and ready for execution.

The ideal candidate is a confident, agile problem-solver who thrives in fast-paced environments and seamlessly navigates between programs and stakeholder groups. You will bring exceptional communication skills, a sharp analytical mindset, and a natural ability to build trust across the organization.

Known for delivering results and driving value, this person can quickly get up to speed, even in unfamiliar territory, demonstrating the adaptability and initiative.

Location: 2 days onsite per week at our Portland, ME, Chattanooga, TN, Columbia, SC or Atlanta (Sandy Springs), GA campus.

Job Specifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required; relevant certifications and/or equivalent experience strongly encouraged.
  • Minimum 8+ years of demonstrated business analysis experience, preferably in the insurance or financial services industry.
  • Deep understanding of Unum US business operations, Agile ways of working, and planning horizons.
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to simplify complex concepts for diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience influencing decision-makers and managing stakeholders at multiple levels.
  • Proficiency with Rally, Excel, Word; SQL skills a bonus but not required.
  • Comfortable navigating fast-paced environments with high visibility and complex stakeholder relationships.
  • Proven track record of delivering customer value and aligning capabilities to business strategy.
  • Strategic mindset with an ability to balance short-term deliverables and long-term vision.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to ramp up quickly on new initiatives or business domains.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and maintenance of an annual or bi-annual capability roadmap for the Broker Connect domain, translating business strategies into prioritized features.
  • Collaborate closely with Change Leaders, the PSE, Product Owners, and Agile teams to define and break down work for delivery.
  • Partner with IT leadership and enterprise architects to ensure that capabilities align with long-term architecture and innovation strategies.
  • Facilitate integration and planning efforts with external partners and the Sales organization, navigating complexities with confidence and clarity.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the business and delivery teams, ensuring cross-functional alignment and transparent communication.
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to Business Analysts across the team, promoting consistency, quality, and a customer-first mindset in all analysis work.
  • Lead and influence discussions across multiple teams and stakeholders to ensure delivery of business outcomes.
  • Assist in developing business cases for high-priority initiatives and support funding and prioritization efforts.
  • Collaborate with Test Engineers to define acceptance criteria and ensure user experience optimization across platforms.
  • May serve in a Scrum Master capacity as needed to support team alignment and delivery cadence.

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.
$109,100.00-$224,000.00

Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not. All benefits are subject to the terms and conditions of individual Plans.
