Join UnitedHealth Group's (UHG) strategy team to build and scale innovative solutions that will improve patients' lives and the healthcare system. As part of a talented cross-functional group, the Associate Director of Clinical Data Procurement and Strategy will orchestrate work across UnitedHealth Group which includes collaborating directly with Optum and UnitedHealth Care. In this role you will be responsible to build and manage a portfolio of clinical data connections by contracting with industries top clinical data vendors to bring in critical data for use in Treatment, Payment and Operations use cases. The Associate Director of Clinical Data Procurement and Strategy is a strategic role requiring a solid background in contracting/procurement methodologies, healthcare, strategic planning, and collaboration across teams. The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive the success of clinical data initiatives and ensure efficient and effective procurement practices. This position operates with a primary emphasis on building and maintaining solid relationships with external vendors and internal business partners. This position has high potential for career growth, developing deep subject matter expertise, and building relationships within the healthcare industry.
As the Associate Director of Clinical Data Procurement and Strategy, you will be responsible for overseeing the contracting and vendor management of the organization's clinical data strategy and managing the procurement processes related to clinical data. Your primary role will involve collaborating with vendors, internal stakeholders, and internal customer partners to ensure seamless data procurement operations. You will also be responsible for the development and implementation of strategic initiatives to optimize vendor relationships and improve the overall efficiency and quality of clinical data procurement.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Vendor Management and Contracting:
- Develop and maintain relationships with external data vendors, ensuring effective partnerships and timely data delivery
- Oversee the procurement process for clinical data, including vendor selection, contract negotiation, and contract management
- Conduct market research and analysis to identify potential vendors and evaluate capabilities, pricing models, and data quality
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and data privacy standards, collaborating with legal and compliance teams
- Collaborate with data analytics teams to define data requirements for clinical research, performance measurement, and reporting
- Clinical Data Strategy:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive clinical data strategy aligned with organizational goals
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify data needs and opportunities
- Design and implement data governance frameworks, data acquisition processes, and data quality assurance strategies
- Stay informed about emerging trends in clinical data management and leverage knowledge to enhance data strategies
- Data Integration and Interoperability:
- Work closely with Business and Product teams to understand business needs, establish data integration processes and ensure interoperability across for your managed clinical data sources
- Support and resolve vendor data integration issues, such as data mapping, transformation, and normalization
- Collaborate with stakeholders
- Program Leadership and Collaboration:
- Lead teams of data professionals for assigned projects and / or cross team initiatives
- Foster a collaborative work environment, promoting knowledge sharing and cross-functional collaboration
- Collaborate with executives, clinicians, researchers, and business partners to align data strategy with organizational objectives

Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in healthcare, business development, strategy / innovation, or clinical data interoperability
- 4+ years of leading teams in a business, program, operations, or cross functional team
- 3+ years of demonstrated expertise in procurement management, vendor selection, and contract negotiation
- 3+ years of demonstrated expertise working with National EMR vendors, EMR aggregators, National Health Information Networks (NHIN), and other clinical data sources
- Experience in healthcare analytics and reporting, including familiarity with data analytics tools and methodologies
- Knowledge of clinical data standards (e.g., HL7, FHIR) and data interoperability principles, especially in CCDs (Care Continuity Documents), electronic medical records and bi-directional exchange with EMRs directly or Clinical data Vendors
- Solid understanding of data governance frameworks and data privacy regulations (e.g., HIPAA, CMS, GDPR)
- Proven exceptional communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Proven excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire others
- Proven solid Vendor Management and Negotiation Skills, problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple, diverse projects/events simultaneously
- Up to 10% travel required for business purposes including department, program, partner, and other internal meetings
Preferred Qualifications:
- Intermediate level of experience with Microsoft Suite
- Experience partnering with senior leaders developing solid business partnerships and relationships
- Proven effective and proven analytical skills and business acumen
- Proven ability to work in a fast paced, highly matrixed environment
- Demonstrated continuous learner, understanding complex business strategies, and recommending appropriate solutions

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $110,200 to $188,800 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
