Sr Operations Manager - Merchants

About the Role

Uber Eats Japan is looking for a Indirect Procurement Manager who can play a critical role in procuring assets that our merchants use to manage their business on our platform and ensure they have a smooth onboarding & offboarding experience.

This role calls for a combination of deep operational skills to get great work done, experience managing continuous process improvements with attention to detail and excellent stakeholder communication, and a keen interest in using data to track and constantly improve operational efficiency and effectiveness.

You will empower our merchants to succeed on our platform by providing them with the necessary tools and solutions and ensuring an efficiency and magical experience.

You will also oversee the company's sourcing capabilities related to all merchant assets, finding and evaluating suppliers, securing products and services, negotiating contracts and acquiring the most cost-efficient deals without compromising on quality.

This role will work with many external and internal stakeholders, including Sales, Operations, Business Development, Product, and Legal. You are a bridge and a connector for the team, contributing to high-impact, high-visibility projects that keep us moving forward.

Your Impact In Role

  • Own the vision and strategy for restaurant onboarding & offboarding experiences, regularly updating sales leadership and key stakeholders on progress and results
  • Manage end-to-end programs in a scalable manner, covering analysis, design/development, delivery, measurement, and optimization
  • Partner with sales representatives and managers to understand competencies and ensure comprehensive merchant programs aligned with business needs in various stages of the merchant lifecycle
  • Present data on the impact/performance during quarterly reviews, manage relationships with external vendors for timely deliverables and collaborate with internal teams for service optimization and cost-effectiveness

  • Excellent negotiation, conflict resolution, and communication skills
  • Problem solver with strong project management and organizational skills
  • Track record of operating independently, demonstrating creativity, being detail-oriented, and delivering results at a large scale
  • A builder's mentality - comfortable developing something scalable where nothing existed before
  • Data-driven decision-making mentality and sound business acumen through analytical thinking to assess process performance and financial viability
  • Excel modeling and SQL knowledge
  • Japanese and English language

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficient with data automation, machine learning, or business intelligence tools
  • Proficiency in Salesforce
