About the Role
Uber's Digital Experience Engineering (DEE) team builds applications and automation tools that redefine how employees interact with internal systems, combining software engineering and AI product thinking to enhance productivity and business value. As a Software Engineer on this lean, fast-paced team, you'll design and develop scalable backend services that automate operational workflows, reduce manual toil, and streamline support across functions like HR, IT, Security, and Supply Chain. By integrating with internal platforms and SaaS systems using technologies like Java, Go, Python, and GenAI, your work will directly impact how tens of thousands of Uber employees work every day-eliminating inefficiencies, accelerating service delivery, and enabling a more seamless, efficient employee experience.

- Design and implement backend services, tools, and infrastructure to streamline and automate internal operational workflows.

- Monitor and improve the performance, reliability, and scalability of automation systems.

---- Basic Qualifications ----
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 2+ years of professional software engineering experience with strong coding skills in Python, Go, or Java.
- Proven ability to design, build, and maintain reliable production backend systems and services.
- Experience developing automation workflows or microservices that integrate with SaaS platforms (e.g., ServiceNow, Okta, Salesforce).
- Strong understanding of RESTful APIs, webhooks, and event-driven architectures.
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes), and infrastructure as code.
- Demonstrated ability to write clean, testable, and maintainable code.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

- Experience automating operational workflows, especially within internal tooling, IT support, or ticketing systems (e.g., ServiceNow, Jira).
- Proven track record of delivering enterprise-grade automation that scales to thousands of users.
- Ability to identify manual operational workflows and independently deliver end-to-end automation solutions.
- Strong systems thinking and analytical problem-solving skills, with a focus on resolving inefficiencies at scale.
- Demonstrated independence and initiative in driving projects from discovery through delivery.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP), REST APIs, and scripting for systems integration.
- Hands on with GenAI tools-LangChain, agentic workflows, end-to-end automation, instrumentation/observability of AI agents, and AI-driven problem solving.
- Experience with observability tooling (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack).
- Knowledge of security and compliance requirements, including IAM, SSO, MFA, and data protection.
- Prior experience at a large-scale tech company or similar environment.
