Payroll Manager

Chicago, IL

Manages the planning, preparation and processing, distribution, reporting, and control processes for payroll. Manages training and staff activities. Oversees calculation of wages and deductions to ensure compliance with federal and state laws. Ensures that payments and reports are disbursed timely and accurately. Establishes policies and procedures for the payroll function. Assists and advises accounting, benefits and human resources in developing new procedures and policies where needed.

Responsibilities (May perform some or all of duties shown below; May also perform other duties and responsibilities, as assigned).

1. Ensure and manage all facets of accounts payable transactions/activities, workflow and supervise accounts payable associates. Work with the AP team to ensure non-merchandise processes are performed timely and accurately. This role oversees all activity involving expense invoice payment, pcard and T&E processing going through Concur and Lawson.

2. Manage a team of AP correspondents and ensure that all vendor/member issues are addressed promptly and completely.

3. Responsible for the recurring activities of the Payroll Dept. which relate to timely and accurate employee payments, reports, and vendor payments in accordance with regulatory requirements and company policy.

4. Assists and advises accounting, benefits, and human resources in developing new procedures and policies related to payroll processes.

5. Direct accumulation and payment of all court ordered wage deductions, union dues, and tax levies according to current compliance requirements.

6. Ownership responsibility of Kronos Time and Attendance system.

7. Manage payables activities of associates including accrual management, wire transfers, prepays, debit repayments, balancing, resolving vendor issues, clearing accounts, bank relationships, expense audits, etc

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or equivalent work experience.

• 5-7 years of experience, preferably in Finance and/or Accounting.

• Intermediate knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

• Experience in technical accounting and performing high-level financial analysis.

• Experience managing and training exempt employees, preferred.

Licenses & Certifications

• MBA preferred.
