We are looking for an experienced Payroll Manager to lead the day-today activities of The Washington Post's payroll department. Do you have what it takes to succeed in this vital position? This position is remote with the requirement to be in our Washington DC office on average twice a month. At all other times, this position will be remote. This requires the candidate to be located within a commutable distance to our DC office.
Responsibilities include:
- Manage all payroll processes (including daily oversight of payroll operations) to ensure accurate and timely payment of compensation in our Workday payroll system
- Manage all period, quarterly, and year-end tax reporting and reconciliation and amendments through W-2s using Workday and ADP Tax
- Manage the production of garnishments in ADP Garnishments, payments dues for multiple unions, and pensions
- Manage Workday Timekeeping system for transactions and updates
- Manage complex updates and testing for Workday system
- Provide payroll account analysis and reconciliation
- Manage staff of two payroll processors, including goals and reviews
- Assist with International payrolls
- Assist employees with payroll-related questions
- Assist Payroll Director as needed
- 10+ years of experience hands-on payroll experience
- 5+ years of experience supervising staff
- 5+ year in Workday system to include system set-up, reporting, timekeeping, uploads/integrations (required)
- 3+ years ADP Tax (required)
- Proven customer service approach working with all levels of employees
- Solid judgment and decision-making abilities, ability to work independently
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong computer skills (with an emphasis on spreadsheet reporting software)
- Ability to work under pressure to meet payroll deadlines and work effectively with others
- Solid analytical/troubleshooting skills
- Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects
- Ability to be flexible with your work schedule (some holiday/weekend work may be required)
- Experience with annual employee reviews and setting goals
- CPP preferred
- Workday Certification Preferred

The Washington Post includes salary ranges for certain positions to comply with local pay transparency laws. The salary range for this position is:
91,800.00 - 153,000.00 USD Annual
The actual salary within this range will depend on individual skills, experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements. This position may be eligible for a bonus or incentive program, and a member of the Talent Acquisition team will discuss bonus payment terms and conditions during the interview process.
