Toyota's Prototype Weld and Paint Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Prototype Paint Technician.

The primary responsibility of this role is to support the Prototype Body Paint process within R&D.
Reporting to the Prototype Weld and Paint Manager, the person in this role will support the Prototype Paint department's objective to support Toyota North America Product Development and Vehicle Evaluation.
What you'll be doing
- Prototype Vehicle Paint - ensure Prototype Vehicle Quality and Delivery will meet or exceed customer requirements.
- Apply refinish primer and paint clear coat - follow through to evaluation. This applies to prototype and marketing vehicles with a high degree of precision and finish quality.
- Deliver consistent, high-end results that meet Toyota standards for evaluation, public presentation, photography, and promotional use.
- Initial responsibility will be centered around Prototype Vehicle Build Operation Plan for Painting and then rotate across all Paint stations & processes.
- Flexibility and commitment to the above responsibilities will require up to 30% overtime at peak times.
- Cyclical nature of Prototype Production will require broad flexibility of work assignments and willingness to support other functions outside of Paint.
- Occasional CNC support may be needed.
- Support prototype vehicle assembly and special vehicle projects as needed.
- Demonstrated commitment to the customer - embrace flexibility of assignments and willingness to support in all functional roles.
What you bring
- Vehicle Paint skills with Trade School Education AND/OR equivalent work experience.
- Ability to perform the full spectrum of automotive painting from initial primer application to final high-gloss and auto show-quality finishes.
- Proven experience in surface preparation, masking, sanding, and color sanding.
- Intermediate skills in applying base and clear coat.
- Intermediate skills in identifying and correcting sanding and buffing imperfections to achieve a smooth, high-quality finish.
- Familiarity with both traditional and modern painting systems, including HVLP spray guns and solvent borne/urethane systems.
- Proven experience working in an OEM prototype environment, including adherence to pre-production standards, engineering change requests, and confidential vehicle build processes.
Added bonus if you have
- OEM paint process knowledge and experience.
- Experience using KPIs for goal setting and process management.
- Quality Circle or other problem-solving systems (e.g., TBP).
- Knowledge of Toyota Safety Management System.
- Experience in other automotive areas including but not limited to: Assembly, Rapid Prototype, etc.
