The Staff Software Engineer is responsible for end-to-end solution delivery involving multiple platforms and technologies. This includes designing, building, and maintaining software assets with a focus on continuous integration and delivery aligned with Enterprise DevOps practices. The role also includes technical leadership responsibilities such as mentoring, hiring, and promoting engineering culture within the product team.

This role will have a Hybrid work schedule, with the expectation of working in an office (Columbus, OH, Chicago, IL, Hartford, CT or Charlotte, NC) 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).
Responsibilities
- Deliver end-to-end software solutions across multiple platforms and technologies.
- Provide significant input into application solution architecture.
- Design and implement CI/CD capabilities aligned with Enterprise DevOps practices.
- Make decisions on development tools and pipeline configurations.
- Ensure adherence to software engineering practices (e.g., source code management, branching, issue tracking).
- Lead and mentor team members, including hiring and fostering a collaborative team culture.
- Promote and uphold engineering culture and best practices.
- Collaborate across teams to drive outcomes and resolve conflicts.
- Design services, APIs, and UI/UX frameworks.
- Manage infrastructure architecture and configuration for operational support.
- Review technical documentation and ensure quality governance.
- Continuously improve code quality, automated testing, and environment management.
- Supervise two employees: Staff Software Engineer and Software Development.
- Hybrid work model: minimum two days in-office per week (Charlotte, NC).
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electronics, or related field.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in software development roles.
- Proficiency in Java, PL/SQL, C, C++, R, Scala.
- Experience with ETL tools (e.g., IBM InfoSphere Streams, IBM Big Insights, Talend).
- Familiarity with Big Data tools (e.g., Hadoop, Spark, Hive, Scoop, Impala, HBase).
- Cloud experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Skilled in using IDEs like IntelliJ for development.
- Strong collaboration, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work in fast-paced environments and deliver customer value.
Candidate must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship. The company will not support the STEM OPT I-983 Training Plan endorsement for this position.
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$114,720 - $172,080
