Position: Software Engineer - MLB - Data Enrichment Engine
The Hartford's Middle & Large Business (MLB) IT Team is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Software Engineer. In this role, you will work within an agile team alongside architects and business partners to design and develop new capabilities for existing applications. Your solutions will align with The Hartford's architectural standards, business requirements, technology roadmaps, and industry trends.

The primary objective is to enhance customer experience and accelerate speed to market, while ensuring flexibility and scalability in support of the MLB Strategic Roadmap.
This role will have a Hybrid work schedule, with the expectation of working in an office (Columbus, OH, Chicago, IL, Hartford, CT or Charlotte, NC) 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and maintain end-to-end solutions across multiple platforms using Java, Oracle, and UNIX.
- Develop and consume APIs; build Web Services (SOAP/REST) using Java Spring Boot.
- Contribute to cloud migration efforts and application deployment in AWS.
- Apply front-end development skills using Angular or React.
- Collaborate with architects and tech leads to uphold architectural standards and ensure application integrity.
- Design scalable, reusable, secure, and cost-efficient software architecture patterns.
- Participate in security assessments and remediation of vulnerabilities.
- Demonstrate systems thinking and collaborate across interfacing systems.
- Engage with teams across billing and premium audit, including maintenance, production support, and cloud migration.
- Evaluate technology trade-offs to deliver optimal customer value.
- Review and contribute to well-abstracted, reusable code.
- Apply DevSecOps practices and CI/CD tools (GitHub, Jenkins, Docker, uDeploy, Rally, Checkmarx).
- Implement proactive monitoring and observability to detect and prevent system issues.
- Share knowledge and present ideas to leadership and peers to foster team learning.
- Serve as a technical subject matter expert for supported applications.
- Mentor team members and sourcing partners on development best practices.
- Manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail.
- Communicate risks, mitigations, and business impacts clearly and concisely.
- Drive innovation by leveraging technology to solve customer problems.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with Java and J2EE technologies (Web Services, XML, JSON, JDBC, Spring frame work, Hibernate).
- Strong experience with API development and integration.
- Proficiency in AWS cloud services and application migration.
- Front-end development experience with Angular or React.
- Solid understanding of software architecture, security, and performance optimization.
- Familiarity with DevSecOps and CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong leadership, collaboration, and communication skills.
Candidate must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship. The company will not support the STEM OPT I-983 Training Plan endorsement for this position.
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$87,200 - $130,800
