The Global Specialty IT, AVP Architecture is a senior technology leadership position that requires a minimum of 15+ years' experience in IT, combined with significant professional experience implementing complex architecture solutions. The Global Specialty IT, AVP Architecture leader will interface with the division CIO to align business and IT strategies with implementation roadmaps to transform current business and technology capabilities to a desired end-state.

The Global Specialty IT, AVP Architecture leader is a senior thought leader in architecture and has demonstrated knowledge in strategic planning as well as experience in delivering architecture solutions that enable large programs/systems. The candidate must be able to bridge silos and communicate effectively at multiple levels of business and IT and be an outstanding people leader.
This role will have a Hybrid work schedule, with the expectation of working in an office (Columbus, OH, Chicago, IL, Hartford, CT or Charlotte, NC) 3 days a week. Candidates must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Builds strong relationships with the CIO of Global Specialty and other business/IT division leaders to understand current and emerging business needs.
- Develops and maintains technical strategies and roadmaps that are aligned with the division's strategic direction to ensure that capabilities required by the business are enabled.
- Leads the identification and analysis of key industry and technology trends to assess potential effect on Global Specialty.
- Assists the Global Specialty CIO and application leadership with investment prioritization and is accountable for architecture metrics at a division level.
- Prepares and delivers comprehensive communications to convey architectural direction and how it aligns with Global Specialty strategies.
- Manages architecture resources supporting the Global Specialty division.
- Responsible for architecture governance across Global Specialty to ensure that proposed architectures are compliant with IT strategy, architecture standards, and technology directions.
- Ensures a strong partnership between the Global Specialty architects and engineers across the entire Software Deliver Life Cycle.
- Collaborates with the other P&C division architecture leaders to identify and build cross-cutting architecture opportunities.
Qualifications:
- 15+ years of IT experience, including 10+ years in a broad Solution Architecture role(s).
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence at the senior leadership level.
- Must have Global Specialty commercial lines insurance knowledge with some hands-on experience.
- Excellent knowledge of IT strategic planning and capability development with experience implementing technology strategy and roadmaps.
- Demonstrated management experience in leading software architecture and engineering teams; ability to coach and mentor architecture resources and effectively manage and shape team and individual behaviors.
- Strong architecture experience and background; can combine contextual, conceptual, logical, and physical levels of thinking.
- Experience in designing and implementing legacy and modern architectures including a strong knowledge of Integration frameworks and patterns.
- Experience across the various architecture domains: application, integration, infrastructure/technology, security, business, and data.
- Clear understanding of cloud and container deployment architectures including building cloud-native applications and container orchestration systems.
- Understanding of AI and ML as well as the integration of data science models real-time into operational systems
- Experienced working with agile development teams, methodologies and toolsets with alignment to architecture practices.
- Experience with DevOps practices including but not limited to continuous integration (CI) and continuous deployment (CD) concepts and tools; familiarity with automated testing and code analysis tools.
- Experience with developing reusable assets such as prototypes, solution designs, documentation and other materials that contribute to department and organization effectiveness and efficiency.
- Has an Innovation and Continuous improvement mindset with a strong desire to stay on top of business and IT trends
- Strong conflict resolution and negotiation skills along with behavioral change management experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills combined with excellent presentation skills to effectively communicate at multiple levels.
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$180,000 - $270,000
