This technology leadership position requires over 10 years of experience in IT, strong application design and development skills, and excellent communication abilities. The role involves conceptualizing and designing end-to-end software architectures aligning to strategic business objectives.
The Director of Solution Architecture is tasked with creating comprehensive digital-first solution designs that encompass multiple components and technologies. This role requires collaboration with development teams and other architects to identify and implement solutions that facilitate business capabilities within a dynamic, Agile environment. Additionally, the Director of Architecture will provide technical leadership to project teams as the solution design progresses from strategy to implementation.
This role will have a Hybrid work schedule, with the expectation of working in an office (Columbus, OH, Chicago, IL, Hartford, CT or Charlotte, NC) 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works with Small Commercial, value streams, business, enterprise architecture, data architecture, and IT support teams to develop and maintain technical strategies and roadmaps that are aligned with the segments strategic direction to ensure that business capabilities are enabled.
- Establishing and driving clear, effective, and innovative solution designs aligning to The Hartford's reference architectures, blueprints, and business and IT strategies across The Hartford's Sales and Distribution portfolio.
- Create a view of the current state technology landscape and identify technology gaps.
- Propose new technologies to address identified gaps and create a target state technology landscape.
- Identification and analysis of key industry and technology trends to assess potential effect on their business segment.
- Drive rationalization of the application portfolio, ensuring each application serves a clear business purpose.
- Develops new technology enablers for business segments and technology domains.
- Assists Value Streams with investment prioritization and is accountable for architecture metrics at a segment level.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 10+ years of experience, demonstrating hands-on design and implementation of robust enterprise level solutions with a broad understanding of traditional and modern software technology frameworks, platforms, vendor software solutions, development tools, and processes.
- Industry Experience: Prior experience as a Solution Architect within the Commercial insurance sector or similar regulated industries is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated experience designing and implementing agentic solutions.
- Professional experience designing AI/ML solutions.
- Demonstrated understanding of GenAI, ML, MCP, A2A and Agentic Architectures.
- Proven Ability to support development of a strategic vision for AI initiatives and align them with business objectives. Strong understanding of AI trends and how to position AI as a strategic asset within the organization.
- Experience in designing and implementing cloud and modern architectures including a strong knowledge of Integration frameworks and patterns.
- Experience designing and implementing Microservices or API-based integrations with clear understanding of JSON, REST, etc.
- Clear understanding of cloud, hybrid cloud, and container deployment architectures including building cloud-ready applications and container orchestration systems.
- Experience with creating and/or implementing designs and integration patterns connecting varied technology systems and vendor platforms.
- Experience working with agile development teams, methodologies, and toolsets.
- Experience with DevOps practices including but not limited to continuous integration (CI) and continuous deployment (CD) concepts and tools, familiarity with automated testing and code analysis tools.
- Experience with developing reusable assets such as prototypes, solution designs, documentation and other materials that contribute to department and organization effectiveness and efficiency.
- The candidate must have strong written and verbal communication, presentation, and technical writing skills with ability to effectively communicate solution recommendations and influence key stakeholders.
- Be a self-motivated individual with strong analytical and research skills; Can handle multiple high priority demands; and be detail oriented, yet still be able to have clarity on the overall picture.
- Proficiency in designing and developing complex IT systems and assessing and evaluating alternative solutions.
- A strong desire to stay on top of technology trends in the Insurance Industry, Cloud, and Emerging Technology space.
Candidate must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship. The company will not support the STEM OPT I-983 Training Plan endorsement for this position.
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$163,040 - $244,560
