Assistant Director, Middle & Large Business Marketing

Reporting to the AVP of Marketing & Communications for Middle & Large Business, the assistant director of marketing will manage the development and execution of marketing strategies that promote our product & service solutions to both internal and external audiences.

Test and Learn Marketing Innovation: Research, plan and execute new and different marketing approaches, across a variety of channels and platforms, to increase awareness of our middle & large business offering to our target audiences. Work cross-functionally with integrated marketing and business leads on marketing initiatives. Analyze success of initiatives and provide recommendations and rationale for future campaigns.

Strategic Ownership and Development: This role has accountability and ownership of the messaging and marketing strategy for business unit marketing plans that support organizational goals and help drive growth. The candidate will partner with the end-to-end service leaders, as well as the middle & large business digital lead, to understand their priorities and develop a comprehensive marketing plan inclusive of presentation materials, marketing collateral, web content, and more. While the primary focus will be in support of our service, digital and low end of middle teams, this role may partner across the marketing team and into other business units as we begin to innovate for the future.

Partnership and Collaboration: The assistant director will work closely with field leadership in middle & large business to uncover areas of opportunity for marketing to better support underwriters and leaders as they interact with distribution partners and customers. This role will be responsible for redefining our field marketing approach, including but not limited to the support of our executive sponsor program and Middle Market Underwriting Center (MMUC).

Our ideal candidate is a highly organized self-starter with a positive, can-do attitude and exceptional attention to detail. This individual will manage a wide range of marketing strategies and tactics, including:

  • Development of thorough creative briefs for a variety of project types
  • Partner with business SMEs to create compelling marketing messaging and value propositions.
  • Write and edit content for a variety of marketing channels, including but not limited to flyers, emails, web content, social media messages, announcements, presentation materials, sales tools, and educational/thought leadership content.
  • Plan marketing strategies to help sales efforts in the business units supported and execute measurable marketing tactics, where appropriate, to help drive business growth.
  • Work with multiple business contacts within the middle & large business, innovation & risk services and enterprise marketing & communications teams to learn and disseminate information about our business and product solutions across multiple audiences, with a keen focus on helping us differentiate in the market.
  • Utilize research/competitive information available to inform the direction and positioning of business initiatives.
  • Partner with business contacts and events planning to execute our sponsorship at various large-scale events tied to business strategy and in partnership with the enterprise event planning team.

This individual must be able to manage multiple projects and deadlines, build relationships with key contacts across organizations, and effectively evaluate and prioritize requests. Success in this role also requires the ability to collaborate across multiple teams to coordinate the development of material, maintain a holistic view of the organization, and secure all necessary approvals.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 8+ years marketing or communication experience.
  • Understanding of insurance industry, ideally with P&C background.
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Extremely organized with a strong attention to detail.
  • Strategic thinker.
  • Strong writer - prior writing/editing experience. Ability to develop messaging strategies.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong understanding of marketing strategy development and effective brief creation.
  • Willing to take direction from multiple contacts and juggle multiple deadlines and projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to build trusted partnerships with contacts across business areas.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand business objectives and design marketing strategies to effectively support the achievement of goals.
  • Consultative skills and the ability to confidently articulate/present the rationale behind marketing and communication strategies.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$102,800 - $154,200
