School Food Driver (Part-Time)

Position Overview: The Equity Project (TEP) Charter School is seeking a motivated and dependable individual to join TEP’s Facilities team as we complete our growth to a K-8th grade school, serving meals to 1200 students across 3 campuses.  The School Food Delivery Driver will drive our “TEP Mobile,” picking up freshly made meals from our Middle School location and delivering them to our nearby Early Childhood and Elementary School locations.  

This position is part time, with daily hours Monday through Friday, from 7 AM to 1 PM.

Driving/Delivery Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Work with the Café team to pack the van with breakfast, lunch, and snacks
  • Drive safely to each TEP Early Childhood and Elementary locations and work with the facilities team to unload supplies efficiently and safely and pick up empty bags
  • Transport additional items to campuses as needed as directed by Supervisors
  • Serve as an ambassador and positively represent TEP while on the road, unloading deliveries, and interacting with people outside of the school
  • Be responsible for the maintenance, daily inspection, and fueling of the vehicle and immediately report any issues with the vehicle
  • Communicate clearly with teams from each campus via radio to facilitate the school food delivery program
  • Perform custodial duties according to schedule when not delivering meals
  • Perform special projects during school breaks that may require heavy lifting (up to 40 pounds), light repair, and deep cleaning of school spaces.
  • Assist with snow removal as needed

Qualifications:

  • Valid New York State driver’s license and clean driving record, required
  • Prior experience as a delivery or commercial driver
  • Positive attitude and dependable work ethic
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time, work outdoors, and lift and carry objects weighing up to 40 pounds
  • Open, flexible, and adaptable to new challenges and tasks as they come up
  • Passion for what you do – you understand how what you do helps TEP operate day-to-day
  • Adaptability and flexibility – you recognize that in the food and delivery industry, anything can – and will – happen and you’re able to calmly troubleshoot issues.
  • Must obtain clearance for employment from the State Educational Department based upon a fingerprint and criminal history background check

Compensation: The School Food Delivery Driver earns a rate of $18 per hour.  Weekly daytime shift hours vary between 25-29 hours per week.
