Description:

Environmental Strike Force Internship

MassDEP Southeast Regional Office seeks applicants for an internship in the Environmental Strike Force program. This position is assigned to the Southeast Regional Office located at 20 Riverside Drive, Lakeville MA and will report to the Environmental Strike Force Investigator within the Bureau of Air and Waste (BAW).

The intern will play a key role in improving the efficiency of regional complaint intake and tracking systems. They will assist with the logistics of the regional strike force program by helping design a system to document and analyze environmental complaints, such as illegal dumping and pollution incidents. The intern will also have the opportunity to use GIS tools to create an interactive map highlighting complaint trends and illegal dumping hotspots for enforcement and planning. Once trained, the intern will screen incoming complaints, make appropriate referrals, and provide compliance assistance when needed.

Preferred Experience and Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in the ESRI suite of ArcGIS software, or similar GIS application
  • Ability to work independently, and in an organized manner with strong attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • General knowledge of relevant science and technology concepts
