Western Massachusetts Hospital, part of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) is seeking a talented and dynamic Wound Care Nurse (RN) to provide essential care to patients with chronic medical conditions. Please Note: The schedule for this position is 7AM - 3:30PM, 24 hours a week with every weekend coverage and rotating week day.

Employees in this position will be required to perform Mandatory overtime.

Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):

• Provide direct nursing care to patients with chronic medical conditions, assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating individualized care plans based on established standards of practice.

• Supervise and direct staff in wound care procedures, ensuring compliance with hospital guidelines and protocols.

• Assess and recommend appropriate wound treatments following Hospital's Wound Care Guidelines, documenting assessments and follow-up as necessary.

• Remain informed and knowledgeable about patient needs, strengths, and potentials through regular review of patient data.

• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop comprehensive care plans tailored to each patient's unique needs.

• Participate in quality improvement activities at hospital, nursing, and unit levels to enhance patient care outcomes.

• Ensure compliance with physician orders and hospital protocols while providing patient care.

• Assist in the orientation of new personnel, sharing expertise and promoting a culture of excellence within the team.

• Utilize hospital supplies, equipment, and services efficiently and cost-effectively.

• Engage in professional development activities, including attending educational seminars, workshops, and in-service programs to maintain licensure and stay abreast of new trends in wound care.

Required Qualifications:

• Knowledge of the standard nursing policies, procedures, methods, and techniques.

• Comprehensive understanding of the principles of physiological, psychological, and emotional growth and development.

• Knowledge of the types and characteristics of drugs used in diagnosing, treating, and controlling physical, mental and/or emotional disorders.

• Ability to effectively utilize diagnostic equipment employed in nursing practice.

• Excellent problem-solving techniques.

Qualifications

First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days.

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants must have at least (A) one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience as a registered nurse in a recognized hospital, clinic or medical facility, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.

Substitutions:

I . A Graduate degree with a major in Nursing may be substituted for the required experience .

Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL LEVELS IN SERIES: Current and valid registration as a professional nurse under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.

*Recent graduates from an approved school of nursing must have applied for the first available registered nurse examination.

Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's license may be required.
