Departmental Mission Statement: The Massachusetts Probation Service's mission is to increase community safety, reduce recidivism, contribute to the fair and equitable administration of justice, support victims and survivors, and assist individuals and families in achieving long-term positive change.

Position Summary:

There are 105 local-level probation offices within five of the seven court departments. You can find probation offices in the Boston Municipal Court Department, District Court Departments, Juvenile Court Department, Probate and Family Court Departments, and Superior Court Departments. The Administrative Office for the Massachusetts Probation Service is the Office of the Commissioner of Probation (OCP) located in Boston. The OCP houses a number of specialized units such as the Interstate Compact Unit, the Records Department which includes the Sealing and Expungement Units.

Tasks may include assisting in day-to-day office duties while learning about the Massachusetts Court System and its various departments. This opportunity will provide the intern with hands-on experience working with probation officers who are responsible for the daily supervision of approximately 64,000 probationers across the commonwealth.

Qualifications

Position Requirements:

  • Currently a Junior or Senior in High School.
  • Knowledge of computer software: Microsoft Office Suite (preferred)
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work professionally with persons at all levels, including judges and other officials, and to maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in oral and written forms, including the ability to communicate technical information to non-technical people.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Employment with the Trial Court is contingent upon passage of a criminal record check.
