Job Description

Taunton State Hospital is seeking qualified applicants for an Environmental Service Specialist I position. The hospital cleaner position is responsible for cleaning floors by sweeping, vacuuming, and washing; cleans interior surfaces such as walls, ceilings and windows, cleans lavatories and washrooms. The incumbent operates equipment specific to an environmental services department, for example, floor machines, automatic scrubbers, high speed burnishers, etc.

Please Note: The incumbent will work 40 hours per week on the second shift from 1:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The days off are Sunday/Saturday, with the exception of working one weekend a month where the days off will be Tuesday/Wednesday.

Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):

  • Cleans floors daily, by dry mopping and washing using appropriate supplies and equipment, to maintain the appearance and cleanliness of the areas.
  • Washes, cleans, and otherwise sanitizes patient bathing and living areas daily to maintain a clean, sanitary area.
  • Washes, cleans, and sanitizes general public areas and offices using appropriate supplies and equipment.
  • Checks soap and shower dispensers and replace with full dispensers as needed.
  • Washes walls and interior windows in offices, rest rooms and corridors with appropriate housekeeping supplies to ensure a clean, healthy, and sanitized environment.
  • Strips and wax floors with stripper.
  • Moves and sets up furniture to prepare room for meetings.
  • Moves and sets up furniture in patient areas, bedrooms, tv rooms, and other locations as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Six months of prior cleaning, custodial, housekeeping experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Given the population served, bilingual or multilingual fluency.

About Taunton State Hospital:

Taunton State Hospital (TSH) operated by the Department of Mental Health (DMH) is a 62-bed inpatient facility that provides continuing care inpatient services to adults with major mental illnesses. The hospital is a leader in the successful integration of the Principles of Recovery and a rehabilitation philosophy into the treatment model and a part of the Southeast Area which works closely with the inpatient treatment teams to facilitate patients' discharge back to the community.

Salary placement is determined by a combination of factors, including the candidate's years of directly related experience and education, and alignment with our internal compensation structure as set forth by the Human Resources Division's Hiring Guidelines. For all bargaining unit positions (non-management), compensation is subject to the salary provisions outlined in the applicable collective bargaining agreement and will apply to placement within the appropriate salary range.
