Job Description

The Massachusetts Commission for the Blind is seeking a Communications intern to oversee social media platforms for the agency. The intern is responsible for obtaining and managing information, writing and editing external and internal announcements, and editing and posting for MCB social media channels. The function of the Communications intern is to provide accurate and concise information in a timely manner to support the agency's mission and enhance our public presence.

Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all-inclusive):

  • Under supervision coordinate the flow of information between the media, executive staff, and managers.
  • Research ongoing issues and attend public meetings and events.
  • Receive and respond to media inquiries in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Confer with manager in order to exchange information, coordinate efforts, and obtain information concerning projects and activities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • College students with prior internship experience are preferred.
  • Computer proficiency and familiarity with the social media platforms.
  • Applicants must be highly organized to meet the priorities of this agency for accuracy and meeting deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Office is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube is preferred.

About the Commission for the Blind

The Massachusetts Commission for the Blind (MCB) is the point of entry for vocational and social rehabilitation services for residents of the Commonwealth who are declared to be legally blind by an eye professional. Under a newly created category, MCB will expand service to qualifying individuals who have low vision with a progressive visual impairment. These services help individuals to work toward independence and full community participation.

Salary placement is determined by a combination of factors, including the candidate's years of directly related experience and education, and alignment with our internal compensation structure as set forth by the Human Resources Division's Hiring Guidelines. For all bargaining unit positions (non-management), compensation is subject to the salary provisions outlined in the applicable collective bargaining agreement and will apply to placement within the appropriate salary range.
