This program is being supporting by multiple teams across multiple sites in the United States. This position will be in support of leading teams in the development of real time, embedded software in Vehicle Management Systems, Stores Management Systems, Autonomy Services, Ground Station Systems, and Mission Systems software for the Phantom Works division of Boeing Defense, Space & Security. While the specific details of this program cannot be disclosed in this forum, we are developing a variety of software components in support of this program specifically, supporting open architecture design constructs, modern software development tools and processes with multi-use across Boeing programs.

This position requires a Software Lead to coordinate all software development activities, to include Program Increment Planning, of multiple software architecture concepts to ensure the products, platforms, and overall system is safe, secure, and assured. This lead will be responsible for developing innovative approaches to collecting, managing, and efficiently correlating a large volume of software products from various sources. The candidate will need to develop close relationships with multiple program teams (Vehicle Management Systems, Stores Management Systems, Autonomy Services, Ground Station Systems, and Mission Systems), engineering teams, suppliers, and customer organizations across several geographic locations in order to influence, negotiate, and ensure timely completion of Program or contractual commitments. This lead will also help develop early-career employees on the team through mentoring, coaching, and project leadership skills related to software development, integration and certification.

Position Responsibilities
  • Represents the Company within industry partner research teams advancing real time software development activities related to various aspects of collaborative software development strategies for design, implementation and test
  • Leads an integrated and consistent approach across the Program to ensure that each Integrated Product Team is aligned and consistent in managing safety and quality in their software products and related deliverables and the software products adhere to the Design Practices
  • Leads analysis and translation of complex software requirements into system architecture, hardware and software designs and interface specifications
  • Provides guidance to resolve complex issues on critical programs related to software architectural approaches, requirements, specifications and design
  • Leads and supports development of technical aspects of critical proposals and task orders
  • Stays current on new software development technologies, tools and best practices looking for opportunities to advance potential applications aligned to company business needs
  • Seeks opportunities throughout the Enterprise to reuse software products, environments, tools, architectures, pipelines, etc.
  • Leads software architecture-level trade studies to inform the development and verification of system algorithms that meet functional performance requirements with high quality and safety
  • Conducts program independent reviews and reports results to the Office of the Chief Engineer and other Program leadership
  • Leads software safety and airworthiness approach, documents and creates artifacts required for safety release to standards like MIL-STD-882, DO178C, Hand Book 516C
  • Software development, requirement definition, design, modeling/simulation, testing, and/or analysis
  • Knowledge of at least one relevant software languages, including but are not limited to one of the following: C, C++, C#, Python, Java, Ada, and/or familiarity using Linux
  • Develop applications that leverage cloud computing as Boeing transitions to a software centric organization

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires an active U.S. Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)

This position requires ability to obtain program access, for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship only.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Active U.S. Secret Security Clearance (Pre-Start)
  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or other technical degree
  • 5+ years' professional experience with C, C++, C#, Python, Java, or Ada system development
  • 5+ years' experience in integrating complex applications on Windows and Linux platforms
  • 3+ years' experience embedded software design, development, debugging, and performing software integration and test
  • Experience leading a project or technical team

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • Experience developing mission systems software on aircraft platforms
  • 5+ years' experience working on Mission System Products
  • Experience working on vehicle management system products
  • Experience developing and documenting software architecture using Cameo, or similar Model Based Systems Engineering tools
  • Experience with Open Architecture standards, such as OMS
  • Experience with DevSecOps and/or complex software build plans
  • Experience working on an Agile team using Agile methodologies and tools such as Jira and Gitlab
  • Experience and/or education in any relevant field: Control Systems, Mission Systems, Flight Controls, Avionics Systems, Tools or Applications
  • Experience working in Agile software development framework
  • Experience developing and testing software on cloud infrastructure

Typical Education/Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience

In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
