Corporate Accountant

Job Summary:

The Corporate Accountant prepares billings, maintains general ledgers accounts, fixed assets, the timesheet program, vacation calculations, payroll and assists in quarterly closes.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Perform day-to-accounting activities including posting journal entries, preparation of account analysis and reconciliations, provide accurate and timely billing invoices and other requirements as required by Tenaska Inc.
  • Ensure the accuracy and address any internal or external billing questions.
  • Posts journal entries and processes intercompany payments related to billings.
  • Maintains fixed assets for a variety of companies, including additions, disposals, monthly reporting. Includes reconciling the balance in the fixed asset subsidiary ledger to the general ledger and conducting analysis related to fixed assets as requested by management.
  • Handles internal reporting requests (costs and employee time). Handles completion of external surveys.
  • Administrator of timesheet program - including employee maintenance, employee training, ad-hoc reporting and charge code administration. Includes annual vacation calculations.
  • Work with management on charge code approval process and ensure closed charge codes are removed from the system on a timely basis.
  • Posts payroll for corporate and plant locations.
  • Assist in quarterly closes for the corporate consolidated financial statements.

Education/Experience/Skills

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
  • 2-4 years experience

Preferred Requirements:

  • Ability to prioritize and organize a variety of tasks
  • Strong written and oral communications skills in order to communicate problems and compose basic internal informational messages
  • Ability to independently research and resolve discrepancies
  • Ability to recognize and respect confidential nature of information handled
  • Two years of experience in daily accounting functions, knowledge of basic accounting rules, preparing and posting accounting entries, reconciling accounts, locating general ledger information, and updating financial systems through data entry
  • Must be highly detail-oriented
  • Must be a team player
  • Experience with Great Plains general ledger desired.
